Google’s NotebookLM Aims to Be the Ultimate Writing Assistant

Steven Johnson has written 13 books, on topics ranging from a London cholera outbreak to the value of video games. He’s been a television presenter and a podcast host. He’s a keynote speaker who doesn’t have to call himself that in his LinkedIn profile. And for over a year now, he’s been a full-time employee of Google, a status that’s clear when he badges me into the search giant’s Chelsea offices in New York to show me what his team has been creating. It’s called NotebookLM, and the easiest way to think of it is as an AI collaborator with access to all your materials that sits on your metaphorical shoulder to guide you through your project. NotebookLM was soft-launched to a select group earlier this year but is now available to all as an “experiment”—that’s Google’s low-risk way to see ho...

This AI Bot Fills Out Job Applications for You While You Sleep

In July, software engineer Julian Joseph became the latest victim of the tech industry’s sweeping job cuts. Facing his second layoff in two years, he dreaded spending another couple months hunched over his laptop filling out repetitive job applications and blasting them into the void.Joseph specializes in user interface automation and figured someone must have roboticized the unpleasant task of applying for jobs. Casting about online, he came upon a company called LazyApply. It offers an AI-powered service called Job GPT that promises to automatically apply to thousands of jobs “in a single click.” All he had to fill in was some basic information about his skills, experience, and desired position. After Joseph paid $250 for a lifetime unlimited plan and installed LazyApply’s Chrome extensi...

Democrats Peddle a ‘Child Labor’ Deception

Ave Maria, Fla.How desperate are Democrats to hold on to suburban voters, especially moms? So desperate that they’re peddling the lie that Republicans are bringing back child labor. Democrats and their media allies have repeated this falsehood since the start of the year, most recently targeting my home state of Florida.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Leeds Bradford to begin work on £100 million upgrade – Business Traveller

The works will include “significant refurbishment of the current terminal building”, as well as a three-storey, 9,500 sqm extension. The upgrade programme is effectively a return to a project originally unveiled in 2018, which was superceded in early 2020 by plans for a brand new terminal building, only for the latter to be abandoned in 2022 “following excessive delays and the decision to call in plans by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities”. As a road warrior for 35 years, Tanna Pearman has crisscrossed the country, staying at luxury hotels and roadside motels. Her least favorite are boxy convention hotels with cavernous lobbies that are easy to get lost in. But at the top of her list is extended-stay lodging. With guest rooms big enough for both working and unwinding, extended-stay hotels make it easy to combine business calls and sightseeing tours, said Ms. Pearman, a broker for Meetings Made Easy, a meeting planning company based in Las Vegas.“It feels more like a living space than just a sleeping room,” she said.Ms. Pearman has plenty of company these days.
