Vistara working on flight plans beyond May 24, worst is over: CEO | Company News

3 min read Last Updated : Apr 11 2024 | 3:03 PM IST Vistara has cut 10 per cent of its flights until May 24 to stabilise operations and is working on plans for later, said Chief Executive Officer Vinod Kannan on Thursday. Vistara cancelled more than 150 flights from March 31 to April 4, allegedly due to some pilots taking sudden sick leave to show their dissatisfaction with the roster and a new salary structure. The airline operates about 320 flights daily. In a message to employees, Kannan said: "It has been a challenging start to the new financial year. As you are no doubt aware, we faced significant operational disruption from March 31 to April 2. The anxiety and frustration felt by our customers was matched in even measure to the pain that all of us felt in seeing...

Vistara opts to cancel around 1,000 flights throughout April

Vistara has taken the decision to cancel close to 1,000 flights scheduled for April to restore stability to its operations. This action follows a significant disruption last week stemming from busy pilot rosters and unrest among a segment of cockpit crew regarding pay reductions. The airline spokesperson emphasised a deliberate reduction in operations, amounting to approximately 25-30 flights per day, representing around 10 per cent of their usual capacity. This strategic move aims to provide breathing room for pilot rosters and minimize inconvenience for passengers. Vistara has focused primarily on domestic flights for cancellation and has proactively re-accommodated affected passengers on alternative flights. Notably, the cancellations have been announced well in advance to mitigate di...

Vistara cuts 10% daily flights in April to stabilise its operations | News

Vistara announced on Sunday that it will be cancelling 10 per cent of its daily flights in April to provide a ‘much-needed buffer’ in pilot rosters. The airline typically operates about 350 flights daily.  Since April 1, Vistara has been compelled to cancel over 150 flights, reportedly due to a specific faction of pilots unexpectedly calling in sick at the end of March. Their action is believed to signify discontent with both the flight schedule and the revised salary structure. The airline’s CEO Vinod Kannan had last week accepted that high pilot utilisation, combined with a portion of pilots taking sick leave at the end of March, led to flight cancellations. On Sunday the airline’s spokesperson said, “We are carefully scaling back our operations by around 25-30 f...
