RwandAir moves Heathrow operations to Terminal 4 – Business Traveller

RwandAir has moved its operations at Heathrow Airport to Terminal 4 “to enhance the customer experience” for those travelling to and from Rwanda. The press release stated that the move is “part of a series of changes implemented by Heathrow Airport’s operators to streamline operations at the busy airport”. The African airline launched flights from Heathrow Airport in October 2020, having previously served London Gatwick since 2017. RwandAir currently offers six direct flights per week to Kigali, increasing to daily from 29 April, with the route served by A330 aircraft configured with 30 fully flat business class seats and 244 seats in economy. Air France-KLM unveils refurbished Air-Rail Terminal at Brussels-South station – Business Traveller

Air France and KLM have opened a fully refurbished Air-Rail Terminal at Brussels-South (also known as Bruxelles-Midi or Brussel-Zuid). The revamped facility is open daily between 0530 and 1830, and comes ahead of a seventh daily high-speed rail service being added between Brussels-South and Paris CDG this summer. The group’s Air&Rail offering enables customers to purchase combined train and air travel under one booking, with a guaranteed seat on the next available flight or train if either service is delayed. Heathrow unveils plans for new baggage system at Terminal 2 – Business Traveller

Heathrow has announced plans to build a new dedicated baggage system at its Terminal 2. The terminal currently uses a 30-year-old system housed within the airport’s Terminal 1, which closed to passengers in 2015 after 47 years of operation. BEUMER Group has been appointed to deliver the six-year project, with the new system capable of handling 31,000 bags per day when complete. Heathrow also said that “new technology with greater data analytics means the upgrade will deliver the predictable and reliable service customers need”. Stansted airport gets go-ahead for terminal extension – Business Traveller

London Stansted airport has been given the green light to extend its existing terminal building. The project was unveiled this summer, and has now been granted planning permission by the Planning Inspectorate. It follows the shelving of plans for a separate Arrivals Halls at the airport in 2019. A three-bay extension will now be built at the back of the existing terminal building, adding 16,500 sqm of capacity. The scheme will create a more spacious departure lounge, with more seating, shops, bars and restaurants, as well as additional check-in desks, increased baggage capacity and a larger security hall with more lanes. Abu Dhabi’s Terminal A to open on November 1 – Business Traveller

Abu Dhabi International (AUH) airport’s new Terminal A will begin operations on November 1, 2023. A report by UAE state-run news agency WAM has indicated that Etihad Airways will operate a ceremonial flight on October 31. Several airlines will subsequently transition to Terminal A in three phases over a period of two weeks. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and 15 other international airlines will fly from the new Terminal starting November 1. Starting 29 October, the number of All Nippon Airways (ANA) international flights departing from Tokyo’s downtown Haneda airport Terminal 2, will more than triple, increasing from the current five flights to 16 flights. Abu Dhabi Airports has announced that its new terminal at Abu Dhabi International airport will open in ‘early November’ of this year. Known as Midfield Terminal Building during the construction phase, ‘Terminal A’ will cover 742,000 sqm of built-up area. According to Abu Dhabi Airports, it will therefore be “among the largest airport terminals in the world” and will significantly increase Abu Dhabi International airport’s passenger and cargo capacity.
