SWISS to serve additional European destinations this summer – Business Traveller

SWISS is adding destinations to its short-haul network for summer 2024, enhancing connections from its bases in Geneva and Zurich. The airline will add flights from Geneva to Oslo this summer and also provide new summer services on its existing Geneva-Copenhagen and Geneva-Stockholm routes. Travellers will also benefit from increased frequencies between Geneva and the existing destinations of Athens, Brindisi, Brussels, Catania, Malaga, Palma and Valencia this summer. The airline’s existing winter service from Zurich to the northern German city of Bremen, meanwhile, will continue into the summer period. Frequencies will also be added between Zurich and various existing European destinations such as Alicante, Madrid, Naples, Venice and Vilnius. Last year, SWISS also announced plans to lau...

SWISS brings last of Covid-parked aircraft out of storage – Business Traveller

Another post-pandemic milestone has been reached, with SWISS returning the last of its stored aircraft into service. The Lufthansa Group carrier placed a total of 25 aircraft into long term storage following the onset of Covid-19, and its A320 (registration HB-IJO) has spent some three years in Amman. The stored aircraft represented a significant proportion of SWISS’ fleet – the airline currently operates just under 90 aircraft. The majority of these are Airbus planes, although the carrier does have a fleet of 12 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. All of SWISS’ stored aircraft were subjected to regular inspections of their installed equipment, as well as regular flushing of the hydraulic systems and engine function checks. The airline highlighted that “Jordan’s hot and arid climate is especially...

SWISS to offer expanded premium economy cabin on A350s – Business Traveller

SWISS has confirmed the layout for its forthcoming Airbus A350 aircraft, including an expanded premium economy cabin. The carrier is expected to begin taking delivery of the first of five A350s from 2025, replacing its existing fleet of four A340 aircraft. The A350s will offer a total of 242 seats – 156 in economy, 38 in premium economy, 45 in business class, and three first class suites. The premium economy cabin is significantly larger than that already offered on SWISS’ Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which feature 24 and 21 premium economy seats respectively. The airline said it was “responding to the growing demand for air travel in the premium segment, particularly among leisure travellers”. The expanded premium economy cabin comes at the expense of the carrier’s fir...

SWISS unveils new menu for long-haul first and business class customers – Business Traveller

SWISS has introduced a new menu for first and business class guests on long-haul services from Switzerland. The new menu is the latest chapter in the airline’s ‘Taste of Switzerland’ inflight dining programme, which sees an award-winning chef showcase regional specialties from their home canton accompanied by wines and cheeses from the region. Every three months a new chef is introduced, with the latest addition being Olivier Jean, the executive chef at the Oetker Collection’s The Woodward hotel in Geneva, an 26-suite hotel designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon. The menu has been inspired by the cuisine at the hotel’s Michelin-starred L’Atelier Robuchon restaurant, where he blends French haute cuisine with Asian influences and local specialties. In first class, passengers can enjoy the likes of...

An Art-Filled Swiss Idyll in Lausanne and the Joux Valley

The museum has a collection of more than 10,000 pieces, dating from 1816. Many are by Swiss artists, including the Giacomettis, father and son. When I visited, one floor featured a large, temporary exhibition of more than 100 paintings by the Swiss painter Gustav Buchet, an important figure in the avant-garde movements in early-20th-century Switzerland. I was captivated, though, by the more realist paintings of François Bocion, who frequently painted working boatmen along Lake Geneva in the 19th century. Bocion was obsessed with capturing the elusive beauty of light on water, and his obsession is our reward. The museum isn’t strictly parochial, though. It also owns and displays boldface names, too: Degas, Renoir, Cézanne and Rodin, and there is an exhibition by a pioneer of textile art, Ma...
