Our Habitas set to enter Qatar – Business Traveller

Hospitality group Our Habitas has confirmed that it will open its first property in Qatar in January 2024. It has partnered with Qatar Airways to debut in Ras Abrouq, an hour’s drive from the UNESCO protected Al-Reem Biosphere Reserve on Qatar’s west coast. Our Habitas Ras Abrouq will be the hospitality firm’s second hotel in the Middle East, following the opening of its hotel in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, two years ago. The Leinster set to open on Dublin’s Merrion Square – Business Traveller

Dublin will welcome a new luxury hotel early next year, with the forthcoming opening of The Leinster. Located on the corner of Merrion Square (also home to the city’s Natural History Museum and National Gallery) the hotel is schedule to open in January. Dubai Airshow 2023 set to be biggest on record – Business Traveller

This year’s Dubai Airshow is set to be the biggest on record, with more than 1,400 exhibitors from 95 countries expected to attend the biennial event. The 18th edition of the Airshow will take place from November 13-17 at Dubai World Central (DWC), Dubai Airshow Site. Prominent participants this year include Emirates, Etihad Airways, Riyadh Air, Saudia, and Qatar Airways, as well as aircraft manufacturers such as Boeing, among several others. New MICHELIN Key set to recognise “the most exceptional hotels throughout the world” – Business Traveller

The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled plans for a new distinction recognising “establishments offering exceptional hotel and travel experiences”. Similar to the group’s established MICHELIN Star for restaurants, the MICHELIN Key will see hotels and accommodation anonymously reviewed and potentially awarded a Key. The MICHELIN Guide said its teams had selected more than 5,000 properties worldwide, and are currently “in the field”, with the first MICHELIN Key selection set to be published in the first half of 2024. It’s not clear if the Key system will follow the same one, two and three-star recognition awarded under the MICHELIN Star guides. Plans have been unveiled for the redevelopment and restoration of The Saville Theatre on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue. The venue first opened in 1931, and has hosted live performances by acts including the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, The Who and Jimi Hendrix. In more recent times the site has housed a four-screen Odeon cinema, but there are now plans to return the building to a live performance venue, including new accommodation and dining facilities. Real estate investment firm Yoo Capital – which acquired the site in 2021 – said that it was in discussion “with a number of esteemed project partners to inspire and bring to life its vision for the development”. Marriott’s first W Hotels property in Scotland is finally set to open this winter, some seven years after plans for the hotel were first announced. The group’s website confirms that W Edinburgh will open in November 2023, with rooms available for booking from the middle of the month. The 244-room hotel was first announced back in 2016 (when the brand was still operated by Starwood Hotels prior to its merger with Marriott), and features a distinct spiral ribbon exterior. China-US flights set to increase – Business Traveller

Air travel between China and the United States was significantly reduced during the pandemic but finally there is some positive news on the return of transpacific flight capacity. From 1 September, Chinese authorities have approved airlines from each country to collectively operate 18 weekly round trip flights between China and the US, up from 12 weekly roundtrips currently permitted. And from 29 October, this will increase to 24 weekly roundtrips. For perspective, this is still pales in comparison to pre-pandemic levels, when Chinese and US carriers operated a joint 150 weekly roundtrips.
