Heathrow reports record passenger figures for September – Business Traveller

Heathrow welcomed 7,075,530 passengers last month – its highest ever September figures. It compares to around 6.8 million passengers who travelled through the airport in September 2019, and is more than 22 per cent higher than the 5.8 million passengers for September 2022. It’s also the first time since February 2020 – shortly before travel restrictions were introduced due to Covid-19 – that monthly passenger figures have exceeded the equivalent period in 2019. The figure brings Heathrow’s rolling 12-month passenger numbers to 76.8 million. The monthly report is the last under outgoing CEO John Holland-Kaye, who will hand over to former Copenhagen airport boss Thomas Woldbye on 18 October after nearly a decade in charge. Copenhagen airport boss appointed new CEO of Heathrow Holland-Kaye...

Rail strike planned for 30 September and 4 October – Business Traveller

Rail strikes are set to continue into the autumn, with workers across 16 train companies set to walk out later this month. The ASLEF union says that members will walk out on 30 September and 4 October in a dispute over working conditions and pay. There will also be an overtime ban for drivers on 29 September, and then from 2 October until 6 October. Mick Whelan, ASLEF’s general secretary, said: “While we regret having to take this action – we don’t want to lose a day’s pay, or disrupt passengers, as they try to travel by train – the government, and the employers, have forced us into this position. Our members have not, now, had a pay rise for four years – since 2019 – and that’s not right when prices have soared in that time. Train drivers, perfectly reasonably, want to be able to buy no...
