JSW Infrastructure bags Rs 4,119 crore award for port in Karnataka

JSW Infrastructure, the recently-listed entity of the JSW Group, on Thursday said it secured the winning bid for the development of an all-weather, deep-water, and greenfield port at Keni in Karnataka for an estimated cost of Rs 4,119 crore. The Karnataka Maritime Board, under the state government, has issued a letter of award for the port, which will be constructed with an initial capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), the company said in a statement. The award came nearly nine months after reports of the company emerging as the sole bidder for the project. According to sources, four parties were in the pre-bid stage — JSW Infrastructure, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), Navayuga Engineering Company, and Vishwa Samudra Engineer...

This legal maneuver is suspect. Contractual force majeure is rarely invoked and enforced to allow the nonperformance of contracts that have become either impossible or impracticable due to some catastrophic event, including natural disasters and wars. The defense has historic...

Adani’s new mega port can lure world’s biggest ships to India

When Zhen Hua 15 — a heavy load cargo carrier sailing from the East China sea — unloads at Vizhinjam port this Sunday, it’ll do more than just set down the site’s first gigantic cranes. It’ll also put India on the map for world’s biggest container ships.Located near the southernmost tip of the country, the Vizhinjam transshipment container port — the first of its kind in India that will be inaugurated on October 15 — will allow India to grab a bigger slice of the international maritime trade currently dominated by China. It will also bolster its aspirations to be an alternative manufacturing hub by reducing logistics costs for cargo coming to and from the country. The new terminal will be another feather in the cap of Gautam Adani’s conglomerate, which faced a scathing short seller attack ...
