Avanti West Coast partners with GoodMaps for accessible wayfinding – Business Traveller

Avanti West Coast has introduced new wayfinding technology to help visually impaired customers navigate stations independently. The rail operator has partnered with GoodMaps to offer the smartphone app at Crewe, Stoke-on-Trent, and Rugby stations on the West Coast Main Line. Customers can download the free GoodMaps Explore app for step-by-step guidance to specific locations within the stations including the ticket office, toilets, taxi rank, platform and refreshments. The technology works through image recognition technology, which identifies the user’s position when they hold up their device, enabling it to provide accurate directions. 25hours Hotels partners with Soeder to stock sustainable toiletries – Business Traveller

The 25hours Hotels brand has partnered with Zurich-based firm Soeder to stock its eco-friendly toiletries in its 15 hotels worldwide. Soeder produces organic skin products, which are 100 per cent natural in origin, containing ingredients such as Swiss honey, wheat proteins and cold-pressed organic oils. All components are sourced, developed and produced on-site in Soeder’s factory in Zurich, with the energy generated during the soap-making process harnessed to power the rest of the production line. Once manufactured, the products are packaged in refillable glass bottles. The products will be stocked in the hotels’ guest rooms, bathrooms and spa facilities, and will also be available to purchase in the 25hours shops. Dubai-headquartered Neutral Fuels, a company that collects waste cooking oil and transforms it into biofuel, has recently partnered with Fairmont Dubai Sheikh Zayed Road on the hotel’s latest sustainability initiative. Accordingly, Neutral Fuels will collect used cooking oil from the hotel and locally refine it into clean, renewable energy. The hotel will therefore not only minimise waste, but also further its green credentials. Lufthansa has signed a Letter of Intent with organisations including Airbus and Munich airport for “a broad-based research collaboration on Power-to-Liquid (PtL) aviation fuels”. The agreement – which also involves MTU Aero Engines and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) – is intended to accelerate the technology selection, market introduction and industrial scaling of PtL aviation fuels in Germany. PtL is considered by some to be the next generation of Sustainable Aviation Fuels, using regeneratively generated electricity, water and CO2 from the atmosphere to create a syngas from which sustainable aviation fuel can be produced. Loganair has joined forces with the Met Office and aviation hardware specialists FLYHT Aerospace to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts and reduce flight emissions. The project will see all 13 of Loganair’s Embraer 145’s equipped with FLHYT-WVSS-II atmospheric water vapour sensors which will measure weather data for the Met Office. The airline’s Embraer fleet operates three to four flights daily across the UK. The sensors will routinely monitor environmental conditions around the aircraft during the flight and allow the airline to collect meteorological information. Singapore Airlines has partnered with luggage collection service AirPortr at Heathrow Terminal 2. Customers living within the M25 perimeter can now have their luggage collected from their doorstep and transferred to Heathrow T2, where it will be checked in. Passengers can then bypass the baggage drop at the airport and head straight for security. The service starts from £28 for one bag pickup from central London (or £33 for two) and the service area is set to cover more locations after the summer period. Customers can book a collection time slot up until 24 hours before departure via the AirPortr website. SWISS partners with AirPortr for free luggage collections – Business Traveller

SWISS has announced a temporary promotion enabling customers to have their luggage transferred from their home or hotel to the airport free of charge. The carrier has an established partnership with luggage delivery service AirPortr, with customers able to book a collection and transferral of their bags to either Geneva or Zurich airport. And a LinkedIn post by AirPortr’s CEO Randel Darby confirmed that the service is being offered free of charge until the end of August.
