Take Your Dog to a National Park. It Is Allowed, With Restrictions.

Ely MacInnes and her husband, Tom, began traveling in the western United States with their 85-pound mutt, Alaska, in March 2020. Driving and living in an R.V., they visited White Sands and Petrified Forest National Parks in New Mexico and Arizona before heading to California, Oregon and Washington. They sometimes struggled to figure out where Alaska could and couldn’t roam, but often found that they could have wonderful experiences.“We could have a great time viewing the park from the car and doing the limited options that allowed dogs,” said Ms. MacInnes. “Most people think you can’t bring your dogs to national parks, but many national parks actually make it very welcoming.”In June of that year, the couple started a Facebook group, U.S. National Parks With Dogs, to exchange advice and in...

London’s former Park Lane Mews hotel to be converted into luxury boutique property – Business Traveller

The development – which is located towards the bottom end of Park lane close to upmarket hotels including the Four Seasons, Intercontinental and Sheraton Grand – will also see the creation of 16 luxury residences across two restored townhouses on Hertford Street. “The opportunity to design and deliver a new hotel in Mayfair is rare and privileged one,” said Timothy Shepherd, managing director at architects Buckley Gray Yeoman. “We have approache...

How Grand Canyon National Park Works to Prevent Heat-Related Deaths and Injuries

Watching weary day hikers start the long uphill hike from Phantom Ranch, a ranger station at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Jeff Schwartz has learned to look for telltale warning signs.“They’ve got the salt stains all over their shirt, and clearly have a day pack on, and you’re like, ‘let’s prevent some search and rescue by talking with these folks,’” said Mr. Schwartz, a paramedic and backcountry park ranger who has worked at Grand Canyon National Park since 2012. After a dozen summers on the trail, he also knows what to offer: a comfortable seat in the shade of the ranger’s office, maybe something salty to eat. “It’s amazing what a bowl of ramen noodle soup will do,” he said.An unplanned overnight at the Ranch may be in order for those in truly dire straits. For everyone else, the rame...

Ghibli Park Celebrates “Totoro” And Other Miyazaki Movies

One of our first infractions at Ghibli Park was hoisting our 1-year-old onto the polyester tummy of a woodland spirit creature. Another was letting him slip under a barricade and shelter inside a furry bus with cat eyes for headlights.“He’s not following the protocol,” I told my wife, as the staff overseeing the cat-bus play zone looked on anxiously.“He’s making a mockery of it,” she said. But we didn’t stop him.Ghibli Park, which opened in November outside Nagoya, Japan, pays homage to the eccentric, enchanting films of Studio Ghibli, a company co-founded in the 1980s by the director Hayao Miyazaki. We took our two toddlers there because their favorite movie is “My Neighbor Totoro,” a beloved 1988 Miyazaki film starring the spirit creature and its cat-bus sidekick. As parents, we thought ...
