Mark Cuban Is Set to Sell Majority Stake in Dallas Mavericks to Adelson Family

One week before the NBA touches down in Las Vegas for the final of its inaugural In-Season Tournament, Sin City has forged another link to the hardwood. The family of the late casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has agreed to buy a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks from entrepreneur Mark Cuban, a source familiar with the deal said Tuesday.Las Vegas Sands disclosed plans by Miriam Adelson, Sheldon Adelson’s widow, to sell an estimated $2 billion in stock in the company, which a regulatory filing said would be “used to fund the purchase of a majority interest in a professional sports franchise…subject to customary league approvals.” NBA reporter Marc Stein first reported that the franchise in question would be the Mavericks.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. The newest addition to the fleet, ‘Bronte Beach’, arrived in the airline’s home city of Brisbane last week from the US. The 11 remaining Max 8 aircraft are expected to arrive throughout 2024, equating to the delivery of one new aircraft almost every month next year, enabling both growth and improved fuel efficiency. Auto Chip Makers Try to Avoid a Pileup

Cars need a lot of chips these days. That has been a godsend for the semiconductor industry—and also a big complication. The industry has been mired in a historic slump for more than a year now. The Semiconductor Industry Association, or SIA, reported last week that global chip sales in September fell 4.5% from the same period last year. That made for the 14th straight month of sales declines—a streak not seen in more than a decade. Much of the downturn has been due to weak sales of PCs, smartphones and other consumer and business electronics that saw a rise in demand earlier in the pandemic. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Ukraine Damages Russian Cruise Missile Carrier In Latest Strike On Crimea

Moscow said a Ukrainian strike had damaged a Russian ship moored in occupied Crimea, the latest sign that Ukraine’s stepped-up attacks are dealing further blows to the Russian Navy. Russia’s statement came after Ukraine’s Air Force on Saturday said it had launched cruise missiles at a shipbuilding facility in Kerch, in east Crimea, that had damaged one of Russia’s most modern cruise missile carriers. The hit to the ship came as Ukraine’s top military commanders describe the battlefield situation as a stalemate.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. LVMH to Buy Eyewear Brand Favored by the Stars

PARIS—LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has agreed to buy Los Angeles-based eyewear maker Barton Perreira, part of the luxury conglomerate’s push to extend its reach to goods with mass-market appeal. Eyewear has emerged in recent years as one of the first purchases that aspiring luxury consumers make before moving on to more expensive items such as handbags. That is prompting LVMH and other luxury-goods companies to wean themselves off licensing agreements with third-party manufacturers and develop in-house eyewear operations.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
