Gatwick extends flight cap until 15 October – Business Traveller

Gatwick airport has extended its temporary cap on daily flight numbers until the middle of October, as it continues to work through issues caused by air traffic control staff absences. On 25 September the airport imposed a limit of 800 daily departing and arriving flights, which had originally been due to last until Sunday 1 October. At the time Gatwick said the decision had been made alongside NATS, which operates the airport’s air traffic control tower, with 30 per cent of tower staff “currently unavailable for a variety of medical reasons including Covid”. The airport has now confirmed that following discussions with NATS and airlines, the cap will remain in place until 15 October “as a precautionary measure”. Rail strike planned for 30 September and 4 October – Business Traveller

Rail strikes are set to continue into the autumn, with workers across 16 train companies set to walk out later this month. The ASLEF union says that members will walk out on 30 September and 4 October in a dispute over working conditions and pay. There will also be an overtime ban for drivers on 29 September, and then from 2 October until 6 October. Mick Whelan, ASLEF’s general secretary, said: “While we regret having to take this action – we don’t want to lose a day’s pay, or disrupt passengers, as they try to travel by train – the government, and the employers, have forced us into this position. British Airways to change ways of earning Avios from October – Business Traveller

Last year, Iberia and British Airways announced they would be moving towards a new spend-based system of earning miles, rather than distance flown, with Iberia adopting the changes in November. British Airways has now announced changes will be taking place to the way Executive Club members earn from 18 October this year. Under the new collection model, members will be able to collect up to nine Avios per £1 spent, depending on their tier status, and will also be able to collect Avios on ancillary purchases such as upgrades and pre-paid seat selection.
