KLM sees surge in unruly passenger numbers – Business Traveller

KLM has announced plans to cooperate with bodies including the Dutch government and Royal Schiphol Group to tackle the growing issue of unacceptable passenger behaviour. The carrier said that it had a seen a 100 per cent increase in unruly passenger numbers compared to 2019, with an average of 30 unruly passengers per month recorded in 2023. Around 60 per cent of incidents took place on board, with 40 per cent occurring in the departure hall, and KLM said that alcohol played a role in more than half of cases. Air France’s Paris CDG-New York JFK services to take on “iconic Concorde flight numbers” – Business Traveller

Customers flying on Air France’s key Paris CDG-New York JFK route may note a change to the flight numbers from next week. The carrier has decided to reassign current flights AF015 (JFK to CDG) and AF022 (CDG to JFK) as AF001 and AF002 respectively. The iconic flight numbers were previously assigned to Concorde services until the supersonic aircraft was retired in 2003. Increased load factors help LAX surpass pre-pandemic passenger numbers – Business Traveller

Los Angeles International airport has surpassed 2019 passenger numbers for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic. The airport achieved the milestone twice last month, with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening 111,017 passengers on 9 October (compared to 107,675 on the same day in 2019), and 94,686 passengers on 10 October (compared to 94,211). The figures were made possible due to increased load factors, as available seats on current LAX flights are still only at 88 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. Gatwick caps flight numbers due to air traffic control sickness – Business Traveller

Gatwick airport has implemented a cap on daily flight numbers for the rest of the week, as it battles issues caused by air traffic control staff absences. A limit of 800 daily departing and arriving flights will be in force until Sunday 1 October. Gatwick said the decision had been made alongside NATS, which operates the airport’s air traffic control tower, with 30 per cent of tower staff “currently unavailable for a variety of medical reasons including Covid”. Singapore’s Changi approaching pre-pandemic passenger numbers – Business Traveller

Singapore Changi Airport handled 5.12 million passenger movements in June 2023, crossing five million for the first time since January 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic struck. This was 88 per cent of the passenger movements in June 2019. In terms of aircraft movements, a total of 27,500 landings and take-offs were recorded, about 88 per cent of the June 2019 level. On a quarterly basis, Changi Airport saw 14.6 million passenger movements from April to June 2023, which was 87 per cent of what was registered for the second quarter of 2019. Aircraft movements reached 81,400 or 86 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
