I Can Hear You Fine. Is It Rude That I’m Still Wearing AirPods?

I once heard that marriage is asking each other “What did you say?” for the rest of your lives. That’s certainly true for my husband and me. We do chores with earbuds in, listening to our respective music and podcasts. When one of us speaks up, it inevitably prompts a delayed, confused response.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Tired of Frayed Charging Cables? This Chic Fix Only Costs $8

Q: I’m sick and tired of my charging cables fraying at the ends. Is there a way to save them and prevent this?A: I have some news that might cheer you up. Apple recently announced that its new iPhones will all come with braided charging cables. Instead of housing their internal wires within a continuous plastic tube that is prone to ripping at both ends, braided cables wrap these guts in a few woven strands of plastic, nylon or steel. Of course, those phones now have a USB-C port instead of a Lightning one, rendering all your existing charging cables even more useless if you upgrade. Whatever, it is a step in the right direction!Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

KKR’s Chip Play Will Win Big in Japan

Private-equity giant KKR has scored a win in Japan, and with a chip price rebound probably around the corner, their timing looks impeccable. Investors should consider going along for the ride.Semiconductor equipment maker Kokusai Electric will start trading Wednesday in Tokyo after raising around $720 million in an initial public offering last week. That makes the deal Japan’s largest IPO in almost five years, according to Dealogic. KKR has owned the company—which used to be controlled by Hitachi—since taking it private in 2018. Kokusai is valued at $2.8 billion at its IPO price, potentially netting KKR a return of more than 60% in Japanese yen terms, excluding leverage. Kokusai unloaded its video and communications systems business after KKR’s takeover.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Com...
