KUALA LUMPUR: Facebook-owner Meta and China's TikTok restricted a record number of social media posts and accounts in Malaysia in the first six months of 2023, data published by the firms showed, amid a jump in government requests to remove content. Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim's administration, which came to power in November 2022 on a reformist platform, has faced accusations of backpedalling on its promises to protect freedom of speech amid increased scrutiny of online content in recent months. Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of oneworld alliance carrier Malaysia Airlines, earlier this week commemorated the arrival of its first Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft with a launch ceremony held at MAG’s engineering complex at Kuala Lumpur airport. The national carrier thus far has placed orders for 25 737 Max 8s, all on lease from US-based Air Lease Corp (ALC). The 25 new Max 8s will be delivered gradually through 2026. Kuala Lumpur-based oneworld member, Malaysia Airlines, is growing its long-haul Airbus A350 fleet following the acquisition of a seventh A350-900. The flag carrier tells Business Traveller Asia-Pacific: “Malaysia Airlines has acquired an additional A350-900 aircraft, growing its A350 fleet size to seven aircraft from the current six. Malaysia Airlines expands free inflight wifi provision to all passengers – Business Traveller

Malaysia Airlines has introduced free inflight for all passengers on selected aircraft. The service will initially be available on 20 A350, A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, before being rolled out to selected narrowbody planes in phases. All passengers on these aircraft will be able to connect to inflight wifi for free, regardless of cabin class or loyalty tier. The move follows the provision of free wifi on the above aircraft for Business Suite, business class and Enrich Platinum passengers earlier this year. Emirates to codeshare with Batik Air Malaysia – Business Traveller

Dubai-based carrier Emirates has announced a codeshare with Batik Air Malaysia that would allow Emirates customers to access five domestic Malaysian cities and three regional South East Asia points operated by Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA). Emirates will place its code on Batik Air-operated flights to Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Denpasar, Jakarta and Singapore. Emirates customers will also have the option to stopover in Kuala Lumpur before proceeding to their final destination. The airline will gain access to eight additional destinations operated by Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur for interline transfers.
