Smaller Banks Look to Shrink Their Way Back to Health

Regional banks have shelled out more and more to depositors to get them to stick around. For many, that still hasn’t been enough. After an ugly third quarter, banks rolled out plans last week to try to shrink themselves back to health. Profits dropped by double digits from a year earlier at a number of them, including 44% at KeyCorp, 32% at Citizens Financial and 28% at Truist Financial. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. New MICHELIN Key set to recognise “the most exceptional hotels throughout the world” – Business Traveller

The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled plans for a new distinction recognising “establishments offering exceptional hotel and travel experiences”. Similar to the group’s established MICHELIN Star for restaurants, the MICHELIN Key will see hotels and accommodation anonymously reviewed and potentially awarded a Key. The MICHELIN Guide said its teams had selected more than 5,000 properties worldwide, and are currently “in the field”, with the first MICHELIN Key selection set to be published in the first half of 2024. It’s not clear if the Key system will follow the same one, two and three-star recognition awarded under the MICHELIN Star guides. The group said that “In response to the hyper standardization of accommodation (design, interior decoration, attention to detail in the room, etc), we wish...

The Marker Key West Harbor Resort

1/16Named for Mile Marker 0 (the famous photo op that marks the end of U.S. Highway 1), The Marker Key West Harbor Resort is ideally located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Old Town, right along the historic seaport. The hotel is only three blocks from Duval Street, steps away from sunset sailings and fishing charters that leave from the harbor, and within walking distance of Mallory Square’s nightly Sunset Celebration.2/16Outside of the hotel, we spotted a series of colorful sculptures called the 5 Watchovers by artist Adam Russell of Key West Pottery, which showcases vigilant pelicans, each sitting atop a tower with a calm eye of protection for their surroundings (aside from the middle pelican who’s feasting on a fish). Each pelican (watchover) overlooks a different aspect of the island: navig...

The mural is considered part of the Key West Art in Public Places program, and it’s actually a black-and-white digital wrap of the same painting inside the lobby.2/16In The Capitana’s nautical-themed lobby, we saw shelves filled with vintage lanterns and bronze diving helmets, along with a full-color painting of the same K.C. Scott mural from the hotel’s facade.3/16The hotel’s grab-and-go shop in the lobby, Sundry Market, sells snacks, sodas, ice cream, and pool and beach essentials like sunscreen, as well as souvenirs, including Capitana-branded apparel and accessories.4/16A guest-favorite design feature in The Capitana's gues...
