Catholic Bishops Speak Up for Jimmy Lai

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee held a summit of global corporate bigwigs this week to preach that the territory is as free and open as ever. The United States has sanctioned John Lee, Hong Kong’s current chief executive and former secretary of security. He was cited in 2020 for “arresting, detaining, or imprisoning individuals” under what the U.S. Treasury called the “draconian” new national security law.The U.S. considers Mr. Lee such a pariah that he is barred from attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit in San Francisco from Nov. 14-16. But no matter.
