Rosalynn Carter, Former First Lady Who Wielded Influence in Turbulent Presidency, Dies at 96

Rosalynn Carter, who as first lady of the U.S. served as a key adviser to her husband, Jimmy, during his turbulent presidency, died at her home in Plains, Ga., on Sunday, according to the Carter Center. She was 96.“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” former President Carter said in a statement issued Sunday. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. Former President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter are “coming to the end” but finding time for each other and family as they face health concerns, according to their grandson Jason Carter.“He’s been in hospice now for several months, but they are happy,” said Jason, chair of The Carter Center, in remarks to USA Today.“They are together. They are at home. They’re in love, and I don’t think anyone gets more than that.
