JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Close to 300,000 people with student loan debt totaling $7.4 billion will have their debt forgiven, according to an announcement by the Biden Administration on Friday morning.The announcement came a couple of hours before students at William M. Raines High School learned more about the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.The state is hoping more students sign up for the program, instead of leaving free money for their education on the table.“It’s free money, you’re going to go to school debt-free. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hundreds of people took part in the annual “Walk to Defeat ALS” on the campus of the University of North Florida.It was an effort to raise money for research and to help find a cure for the disorder that affects how the nerves and muscles work.“This disease is an ugly disease. But I am not going to let it define me,” said Max Snyder, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2022.One of our colleagues had that disease. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The lawyer for a former financial planning manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars accused of stealing more than $22 million from the franchise said he spent most of that money gambling on sports.In a news release Thursday, the attorney for Amit Patel said his client will plead guilty to the charges of wire fraud and making illegal transactions and that he checked into a rehabilitation center to treat his gambling addiction this spring.Patel met with NFL officials in February who were investigating his gambling activities, primarily involving daily fantasy sports betting on websites like DraftKings and FanDuel. Four Seasons to open property in Florida’s Jacksonville – Business Traveller

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to open a new property in Jacksonville, Florida in 2026. The hotel group has partnered with Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL), to launch the property. The 170-room new-build hotel, which will also include 26 private residences, will be located on the banks of the St Johns River in downtown Jacksonville, offering waterfront views and access to a redeveloped marina. There will be four dining and lounge outlets, including a rooftop restaurant and bar, all-day restaurant, pool bar and grill and lobby bar, along with a gym, multiple outdoor pools, expansive meeting and event space and a kids club.
