Iran Is Pushing Biden Around

Hours after Kataib Hezbollah injured three American troops with an attack on an air base in Iraq on Dec. 25, the U.S. struck back, hitting three facilities used by the Iran-backed militia. U.S. officials described the act as a proportionate retaliation to deter further attacks and mitigate the risk of a full-scale war between the U.S. and Iran. U.S. military officials say there have been 103 attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 17. Several Americans have been injured. The U.S. has retaliated half a dozen times against Iran’s Arab proxies in both countries. The math isn’t working for the Biden administration, and neither is time. Israel-Hamas War Raises Concerns in U.S. About Religious Discrimination

The Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East has sparked concerns about religious discrimination in the U.S., creating new fissures in a divided American electorate that could help shape next year’s presidential election. An equal share of Americans said both Jews and Muslims face discrimination, but a higher number of Democrats and younger voters see prejudice as a “major problem” for Muslims, according to a new poll by Wall Street Journal-NORC.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Coldplay concert in Malaysia can be stopped by organizers if the band misbehaves, government says

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Organizers of Wednesday's Coldplay concert in Malaysia can stop the show if the British rock band misbehaves, a minister said as the government rejected Muslim conservatives' calls to cancel the show. Led by the country's opposition bloc, Muslim conservatives have protested the concert over Coldplay’s support for the LGBTQ+ community. Recently, they also pushed for the concert to be halted in solidarity with Palestinians killed in the Israel-Hamas war. Communication and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he doesn't foresee any problem with Coldplay's first concert in Malaysia later in the night. Security has been beefed up for the show that is expected to draw some 75,000 people at a stadium outside Kuala Lumpur.“Yes, it's one of the things we have discussed with...

Biden Administration Tries to Soften Blowback From Muslim Leaders in U.S.

WASHINGTON—The Biden administration is making public and private efforts to address concern from some Democrats, including Arab and Muslim leaders, over its staunch support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. President Biden met with Muslim-American leaders at the White House on Thursday, as his administration expressed more openness to backing a temporary pause in the conflict to get humanitarian aid into Gaza and renewed calls for a two-state solution.  Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
