Air New Zealand trials removal of single-use cups inflight – Business Traveller

Air New Zealand has carried out a trial of “single-use cup free flights”, as it explores how to reduce the millions of cups used on its aircraft each year. The carrier trialled the initiative on six domestic flights last week, with customers being encouraged to bring reusable cups with them, or being provided with one for use during onboard service. ANZ said that “knowledge gained from customer feedback, operational logistics, and impact will help to determine the viability of implementing the initiative in the long term”. Lufthansa to introduce free inflight messaging on European flights – Business Traveller

Lufthansa has announced plans to offer free inflight messaging for customers on short and medium-haul flights. From mid-January 2024 passengers on A320 Family aircraft which have wifi connectivity will be able to send and receive an unlimited number of message – including photos – on their smartphone or tablet. The only prerequisite for using the new service is logging into FlyNet with a Miles & More card number, or with an email address registered with the Lufthansa Group Travel ID. Those customers without one of these will be able to register inflight. Malaysia Airlines expands free inflight wifi provision to all passengers – Business Traveller

Malaysia Airlines has introduced free inflight for all passengers on selected aircraft. The service will initially be available on 20 A350, A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, before being rolled out to selected narrowbody planes in phases. All passengers on these aircraft will be able to connect to inflight wifi for free, regardless of cabin class or loyalty tier. The move follows the provision of free wifi on the above aircraft for Business Suite, business class and Enrich Platinum passengers earlier this year. Finnair introduces free inflight messaging on European flights – Business Traveller

Finnair has become the latest carrier to introduce complimentary inflight messaging. From today (2 November) all Finnair Plus members can now send and receive free text-based messages via platforms including WhatsApp, iMessage, Viber, Kakao Talk and WeChat, on European flights operated by Finnair’s narrow-body Airbus fleet. In addition Finnair Gold and Platinum members will see their current 30-minute free browsing package upgraded to a 30-minute streaming package from January 2024. British Airways has doubled the amount of content available for customers to watch on its inflight entertainment system (IFE) since the start of the year. The airline now has more than 75 complete boxsets and 20 classic franchises on board, along with 50 new movie releases such as Love Again, Paint and The Covenant. The British flag carrier also has a range of exclusive content through its Paramount+ partnership, including Rabbit Hole: The Algorithms of Control, The Flatshare and Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies.
