The solar eclipse could deliver a $6 billion economic boom: “The whole community is sold out”

Steve Wright said he first heard about the total eclipse on April 8 four years ago, when a visitor booked the first room for the event at Vermont's Jay Peak Resort. Wright, the resort's general manager, said he soon started hearing rumblings from other ski areas. "They said, 'The hype is real'," he recalled, adding that he's never seen anything quite like the visitor excitement over the eclipse. That early prediction turned out to be prescient, with Wright noting that all of Jay Peak's 900 rooms have been fully booked for April 7 — at a cost of about $500 per night — for a year and a half. Biden Administration Puts New Emphasis on Fighting Violent Crime

INDIANAPOLIS—The Biden administration is walking a tightrope on law enforcement, raising its support for local police fighting violent crime without abandoning its longtime goal of curbing misconduct in some departments. In the past month alone, the Justice Department announced it would flood federal agents and racketeering prosecutors into Memphis, Tenn.; charged 20 people in South Carolina with trafficking guns and drugs; and seized a cache of machine guns, rifles and silencers in Rhode Island. The top federal prosecutor in Washington said he would try more teenage carjacking suspects as adults, blasting what he described as overly lenient criminal-justice laws that had “swung too far” in the nation’s capital.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. What I Actually Saw.”Melton is the guy who wants to make these videos go away.“We’re not going to allow YouTubers to come to our city and run through a couple of abandoned buildings and let the algorithm dictate our future,” Melton said no...

Elizabeth Warren Has an ObamaCare Epiphany

It took 13 years, but Elizabeth Warren is at long last acknowledging that ObamaCare has increased healthcare prices and industry consolidation. Who would have believed it? Government price controls and profit caps have resulted in unintended consequences. The Massachusetts Senator and Republican Sen. Mike Braun of Indiana this week wrote a letter to the Health and Human Services Department inspector general complaining that the nation’s largest health insurers are dodging ObamaCare’s medical loss ratio (MLR). The result, they say, is higher costs for patients.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8
