PGA Tour, Saudi Deadline Passes With No Deal—but Talks Will Continue

The stunning agreement last June between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s Saudi backers came with a deadline to hammer out a deal: the end of 2023. As New Year’s Eve came and went without a pact, the sides now say they are poised to continue negotiations into 2024. In a memo to players Sunday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan wrote that the goal remains to strike a finalized agreement—but it hasn’t happened yet. Instead, he said, there are “active and productive conversations” with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and they are “working to extend our negotiations into next year based on the progress we have made to date.”Copyright ©2024 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. It was a darn shame that the puck went in at the end (of regulation) but Va...

The NYC Marathon Is Harder to Get Into Than Ivy League Schools

From dawn to dusk one day last winter, Liliana Pech-Adrian kept checking her bank account hoping that a $295 charge would appear. That’s the registration fee for the New York City Marathon, which would show up if the longtime recreational runner was selected through the race’s entry lottery.Pech-Adrian, a 39-year-old mother of four who lives outside Austin, Texas, yearned to run New York’s most famous race after watching the city from afar during the Covid-19 pandemic. “If I get to run on those streets that were so sad and shut down and empty, it’s like a victory,” she said.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. South Africa Holds Off New Zealand to Win the Rugby World Cup

On any given day, whichever 15 men happen to be wearing the jersey of the New Zealand All Blacks can be the most fearsome outfit known to rugby. The problems begin when there are only 14 of them. New Zealand learned that lesson the hard way on Saturday inside the Stade de France, where the first ever red card in a Rugby World Cup final left the All Blacks a man short for nearly three-quarters of the match against South Africa, the No. 1 rugby union team in the world. The Springboks are a grueling enough machine to face when things go right. But when things go wrong against them from the opening minutes, you end up losing the World Cup.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8
