India captain Rohit Sharma says Shubman Gill will play at No. 3 in Tests against West Indies

India had a pretty great left-hander in their line-up called Rishabh Pant. He is still their highest Test run-getter over the past three years, even though he has not played any cricket since December 2022 when he got injured from a car crash. The variety he offered this batting has been missed ever since. With Pant unavailable, only two left-handers have been part of Test matches that India have played: Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. A third is on his way though, preparing to make his debut, as an opener.Yashasvi Jaiswal averages 80 in first-class cricket. He has hit nine centuries in 15 matches. And while it may be an entirely different format, his performances in the IPL showed he has the ability to handle all kinds of bowling, from extreme pace to mystery spin.India's Test captain Roh...

Duleep Trophy final – Ajinkya Rahane’s story fuels Hanuma Vihari’s quest for India comeback

On India's previous tour of the Caribbean in 2019, Hanuma Vihari realised his childhood dream of scoring a Test century. Four years on and 10 Tests later, Vihari finds himself at a crossroads. When Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped during the home series against Sri Lanka early last year, Vihari replaced him at No. 3. It's a spot he managed to hold on to for just three Tests, in which he made scores of 58, 31, 35, 20 and 11.Two of those innings were on a rank turner in Bengaluru where India beat Sri Lanka in under three days. Two others were in Birmingham, in the fifth Test against England in July last year, where there was seam and swing to counter. Not new, but certainly challenging.Vihari hasn't played for India since that Test. His overall numbers read: 839 runs in 28 innings with five fif...

Sunil Narine will lead LA Knight Riders (LAKR) in the inaugural season of the MLC starting July 13 in the USA. LAKR will kick-start MLC against Texas Super Kings at the Grand Prairie Stadium."I've always spoken about wanting to represent the Knight Riders wherever they play," Narine said in a Knight Riders release. "We've long talked about coming to the United States and I'm glad it's finally happening. As captain of this side, I am looking forward to the challenge. There are a lot of experienced guys in this team who I can bounce information off, so it will be an exciting time for us. We hope for all Knight Riders...

Ashes 2023 – Ben Stokes – Headingley win just the start for England

Ben Stokes hailed the performance of his England side in "another down-to-the-wire" Ashes Test at Headingley, but insisted that their dramatic three-wicket victory is "just the start" of their bid to come back from two-nil down and win the series.Unlike four years ago, Stokes was not the protagonist of an England run chase at Headingley, scoring only 13 before being strangled down the leg side by Mitchell Starc. But contributions from Harry Brook - who top-scored with 75 - as well as Zak Crawley, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood were enough for them to hunt down a target of 254 inside 50 overs."It's obviously really big in the context of the series," Stokes said. "We knew we needed to win this one to keep alive our hopes of winning the Ashes, so it's a good win. If you look at the first two gam...

Ashes 2023 – David Warner spot could come under scrutiny for Old Trafford Test

David Warner's position could come under scrutiny for the Old Trafford Test with Australia facing a selection squeeze after the impressive return to the side of Mitchell Marsh.Cameron Green, who sat out the Headingley match opening the door for Marsh's comeback, is on track to be fit for the fourth Test after a minor hamstring strain. He bowled and did sprints ahead of the final day's play in Leeds as well as briefly acting as a substitute fielder. But Marsh's stunning century on the opening day, in his first Test for four years, has made him very tough to leave out which means someone else will have to make way unless they opt not to bring Green straight back in.The spotlight has again returned to Warner after his twin failures at Headingley where he twice edged Stuart Broad to slip from ...

Duleep Trophy 2023 – Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari star in thrilling chase as South join West in final

What was smooth sailing for most of the journey turned into a rocky ride towards the end, as South Zone, in pursuit of 215 against North Zone, slipped from 191 for 4 to 213 for 8 in their run chase. Eventually though, Sai Kishore kept his calm and deposited the opposition captain Jayant Yadav for a straight six to steer South to a two-wicket win, and with it, a place in the Duleep Trophy final. South hunted down their target at better than a run a ball in Bengaluru, where there were two lengthy rain delays on the fourth and final day.The South batters kept playing their shots despite wickets falling in a hurry, with the finish line nearing, after the experienced Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari laid the foundations for their victory, which Ricky Bhui and Tilak Varma built upon with an agg...

BCCI changes Impact Player rule for SMAT, also allows two bouncers per over

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) - India's domestic T20 tournament - will see three changes from the upcoming season: two bouncers allowed per over and minor tweaks to the Impact Player rule, which was trialled last season. Previously, the Impact Player could only be used before the 14th over of an innings in SMAT, but now the rule can be used at any time during the match, like it was in the IPL this year.

Eng vs Aus, 2023 Men’s Ashes – Pat Cummins vs Joe Root – a hallmark of greatness

We've had the re-run of Stuart Broad vs David Warner, but Pat Cummins vs Joe Root is catching up with the Australia captain now reaching double-figures of dismissals against England's best batter. Here's a look back at how he's done it, with some outstanding deliveries among them...Massive moment! Huge appeal for lbw, given not out by Erasmus, and Smith has called the review. Root falling across a full delivery, trying to play it too square, the bat got caught behind his pad. This looks very good. Smashing middle!Full in the channel, Root goes hard... and slices to third slip! What a moment, England's captain gone! Cummins is stoked, Australia are in their element, a second wicket of the morning and it might be the nail in England's chances. Short and then full and Root wasn't in synch, t...

Australia BBL news – Early start early finish for the BBL might see overseas players stay longer

Yashasvi Jaiswal Tilak Varma earn maiden call up to India T20I squad for West Indies series

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma's stellar performances in the IPL have paved a way to the Indian T20I squad with the two quick-scoring left-handers chosen as part of a 15-member squad to play against West Indies from August 3. It is their first call-up to the senior side in the shortest format.Hardik Pandya captains the team which will play five games in the Caribbean and the USA, with Suryakumar Yadav named his deputy. Some of the other heavy hitters are missing though. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven't represented India in T20Is since their semi-final exit at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja, the hero of the 2023 IPL final, was absent as well, along with fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has not been picked either. This is the first squad chosen by the newly installed men's senior se...
