Pat Brown, the Worcestershire T20 specialist who has been capped four times by England, has agreed a three-year deal to join Derbyshire from the end of the season.Brown, 24, has 104 wickets in 85 T20 appearances. He played a key role as Worcestershire won the Vitality Blast in 2018, in only his second full season, and made his England debut in New Zealand in 2019-20, before a succession of back injuries checked his progress. He returned to form this season, finishing as Worcestershire's leading wicket-taker with 24 at 22.41."I'm very thankful to Worcestershire for providing me with the opportunities and exposure from the age of 17 to become the cricketer I am today," Brown said. Ellyse Perry says Australia are focused on beating England in Taunton to win the Women’s Ashes outright

Australia have rediscovered their mojo, but simply retaining the Ashes is not enough for a world-beating side who have been pushed to their limits by England. The hosts can make it victories in two white-ball series from two if they clinch the final ODI in Taunton on Tuesday, although the best they can do points-wise is to move to equal with Australia on eight, which will mean the overall contest is a draw and the tourists still heading home with the Ashes. Ellyse Perry, whose innings of 91 set Australia up to break a three-game losing streak in the second ODI in Southampton, said that wouldn't do."That last game in Taunton is really important to us because I think a few of us have been involved in campaigns where we've retained the Ashes, but it's always nice to win the Ashes so it's a go...

Eng vs Aus, 2nd ODI – Alana King refuses to be dethroned as Australia reassert Ashes dominance

This Australian side isn't going away any time soon. That was the message from Alana King after helping her side to an Ashes-retaining victory with three crucial wickets in the second ODI in Southampton. The nail-biting win, by three runs off the final ball, broke a three-game losing streak in the series which had allowed England to draw level on six points all and give themselves a chance of winning back the Ashes, held by Australia since 2015.And, despite Nat Sciver-Brunt's unbeaten 111, Australia's four-pronged spin attack, chosen for the conditions but also to change things up and "throw something different at England", as King put it, prevailed. Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets and bowled a miserly penultimate over while Jess Jonassen typically held her nerve at the death with Engl...

Women’s Ashes 2023 – Amy Jones says different England side taking on Australia now

Australia haven't quite been themselves for the greater part of this Women's Ashes series but nor have England, says Amy Jones, who believes that's a good thing.Jones isn't the first to highlight that conceding a 6-0 points deficit might have sent previous England sides into their shells but, after "disaster Ashes before", the hosts have drawn a line which now sees them level at 6-6 with two games to play."It doesn't feel like we're playing a different side, it just feels like we're a different side, and the way we're going about is different," Jones said on the eve of the second ODI at the Ageas Bowl. "We've seen really close games, it's not at all like we've smashed the games that we've won, and the games that we've lost, they've been really close. We're just seeing two really close-mat...

WI vs Ind 1st Test – Rohit Sharma on Yashasvi Jaiswal: ‘At no stage did he go away from his plans’

Jaiswal's innings, lasting 501 minutes and 387 balls, was the longest by an India Test debutant, and Rohit watched a large part of it from the other end during an opening stand of 229."He's got the talent," Rohit said of Jaiswal. "We knew about it. He's shown us in the past couple of years that he's ready for this big stage. Came and batted sensibly, showed a lot of patience, and the temperament was tested as well - at no stage [did it look] like he was panicking or going away from his plans, which was good to see."Rohit, who experienced scoring a century on Test debut against West Indies a decade ago, said all he told Jaiswal during their partnership was that he belonged at the Test level."In the middle, it was just about having a chat, letting him know, 'You belong here.' That is the mo...

Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead second-string India side in Asian Games

With the men's ODI World Cup scheduled to begin in India on October 5, two days before the end of the Asian Games cricket competition, the BCCI has named a second-string men's side, while the women's squad for the competition in Hangzhou is at full strength.Notably, this was the first India call-up for Uttar Pradesh batter Rinku, who had set the IPL alight with his power and finishing skills for Kolkata Knight Riders. Vidarbha and Punjab Kings finisher Jitesh also found a place in this squad after being omitted for the T20Is in the Caribbean and USA. This is also an opportunity for allrounder Washington Sundar and his Sunrisers Hyderabad team-mate Rahul Tripathi to prove their T20 chops again. Both players had been part of the home T20I series against New Zealand in February earlier this ...

Australia news – Australia A to host New Zealand A in day-night four-day fixture

The Sheffield Shield season will run from October 3, 2023, until the final on March 21-25, 2024. There will be six Shield rounds before the first Test but the last of those six games begins on November 28 to accommodate the BBL starting earlier on December 7. That may mean that Australia's multi-format players are likely to go without a red-ball game before the Pakistan Test series with the 50-over World Cup set to run from October 5 until November 19 in India. Australia are scheduled to then stay in India and play a five-match T20I series straight after the completion of the World Cup, prior to the home Test series against Pakistan.

WI vs Ind 1st Test – Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes India’s 17th centurion on Test debut

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the 17th India batter to score a century on Test debut, and the first to do so outside Asia in more than 21 years. The 21-year-old reached the milestone on the second afternoon of the Dominica Test, bringing it up with a standing sweep for a single off the part-time bowling of fellow debutant Alick Athanaze.Jaiswal opened the batting alongside captain Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill moving down to the No. 3 spot vacated by Cheteshwar Pujara's axing. When he reached his hundred, off 215 balls, India were 205 for no loss after they had bowled West Indies out for 150 on day one."It was an emotional moment for me," Jaiswal said after the day's play. "I enjoyed it quite a bit. I am still batting so I will try to play for as long as possible. This is just the start o...

Eng vs Aus, 1st ODI – Alyssa Healy admits ‘The Ashes are on the line, proper’ after Bristol cliffhanger

Alyssa Healy, Australia's captain, has challenged her side to throw out the excuses and galvanise for a response, after conceding that England's third consecutive victory in the white-ball leg of the Women's Ashes has left the series "on the line now, proper".After slipping to a 6-0 deficit following defeat in the one-off Test in Trent Bridge and the first T20I at Edgbaston, England have now roared back to contention, squaring the rubber at six points all with a nailbiting two-wicket win in Bristol, with two final ODIs to come at Southampton and Taunton. And while Australia need only to take victory in either match to retain the trophy that they have held since 2015, the fearlessness of England's fightback - led on this occasion by Heather Knight's superb captain's innings of 75 not out bu...
