When fire began to incinerate the historic town of Lahaina, on the west side of Maui, Anna Lieding got a call from her boss: people were fleeing into the ocean, and the Coast Guard needed boats to help rescue them. Lieding, who was born on Maui and grew up in Nahiku, a spot of jungle on the island’s east side, is a boat captain. As relief and recovery efforts continue for those affected by the wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, Northern California businesses are trying to help.Kau Kau, a relatively new Hawaiian restaurant in Sacramento, is offering a limited-edition special cocktail right now called the Sake Spritzer. Kau Kau owner Amanda Bridger said $2 from every purchase of the drink would go to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund.
