The Social Hub opens first UK property in Glasgow – Business Traveller

Amsterdam-based brand The Social Hub is opening a property in Glasgow on 12 April, marking its debut in the UK. The “hybrid hospitality concept” is aimed at business travellers, students and tourists, with its properties offering a mixture of hotel rooms, student accommodation and extended-stay rooms. The Social Hub Glasgow is located on Candleriggs Square within the city’s Merchant City District, and features 494 rooms of various configurations. Additionally, the property includes a co-working space which offers flexible memberships and dedicated desks – with capacity for 222 people on a daily basis – as well as 20 private offices, meeting and event spaces and an auditorium. Wizz Air to quit Edinburgh in favour of Glasgow – Business Traveller

Wizz Air has announced plans to launch flights from Glasgow to Bucharest and Budapest next month. Both routes will be served twice-weekly, with Budapest (a route Wizz Air has previously flown) operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 14 November, and Bucharest operating on Mondays and Fridays from 17 November. But Glasgow’s gain is Edinburgh’s loss, as existing Wizz Air flights from the Scottish capital to Budapest and Bucharest will cease on 11 and 13 November respectively. It is also understood that the carrier’s seasonal route from Edinburgh to Gdansk will close on 26 October, leaving the airport with no Wizz Air services for now. Turkish Airlines planning routes to Glasgow and Newcastle – Business Traveller

Turkish Airlines has outlined expansion plans as part of its recent Roadshow presentation. The flag carrier currently flies to 291 destinations in 128 countries – the most of any carrier worldwide – and has named around 30 routes among its future plans. In the UK these include Glasgow and Newcastle, which would add to existing UK airports served by the carrier including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Stansted. EasyJet and Jet2 add twilight bag drop at Glasgow airport – Business Traveller

Glasgow airport has introduced a new Twilight Bag Drop service, available to easyJet and Jet2 customers. The airport says that passengers flying from the airport before 0830 can now check in their luggage between 1630 and 2100 the day before, allowing them to head straight for security on the morning of their flight. Note that a separate press release from easyJet says that the Glasgow twilight service opens at 1600. To avail of the service customers must complete check-in and have their boarding pass and passports with them. The lead booker must also be present when the luggage is being checked in.
