How a $13.99 Snoopy Sparked a Gen-Z Craze

When Snoopy first appeared in the “Peanuts” comic strip in 1950, his creator Charles M. Schulz couldn’t have guessed that his hand-drawn beagle would spawn one of the hottest toys of 2023.The latest Gen-Z obsession is a $13.99 stuffed Snoopy toy wearing a little blue puffer and a striped hat. A CVS exclusive, the toy is sold out at the pharmacy chain’s locations all over the country. Online, it’s being resold on sites like eBay and Mercari for anywhere between $40 to $70. On Reddit, CVS employees swap stories about receiving dozens of daily phone calls asking if they still have the toy in stock. And on TikTok, young consumers are documenting their quests to get their hands on the stuffed beagle. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1...

What Your Friends Can Teach You About Money

Colin Saint-Vil got his money education at the dim sum cart, over a steamy plate of pork buns and turnip cake. A friend offered to pick up the whole tab on her credit card, “for the points.” At the time, six years ago, “for the points” meant nothing to Saint-Vil, now a 30-year-old planning manager in Brooklyn, so he pressed for more details. They lingered over the dim sum meal as a larger conversation unfolded about annual percentage rates, credit-card debt, payment schedules and more. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Gen Z Flirts With Socialism

Editor’s note: In this Future View, students discuss Gen Z and the rising interest in socialism. Next week we’ll ask, “With the Treasury announcing a new fentanyl strike force, how much of a threat is the drug to American youth? Is fentanyl a uniquely damaging drug, or is it just as damaging as other substances? How should America deal with the fentanyl problem?” Students should click here to submit opinions of fewer than 250 words before Dec. 12. The best responses will be published that night.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

The Distrustful Generation – WSJ

Editor’s note: In this Future View, students discuss declining trust in American governmental and political institutions. Next week we’ll ask, “Nearly half of Americans 18 to 29 favor socialism. Why does this generation seem so divided from older generations? Has social media played a large role? Academic institutions? Or is Gen Z less divided from older generations than we think?” Students should click here to submit opinions of fewer than 250 words before Dec. 5. The best responses will be published that night.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

Biden Keeps Talking About the Old Days. Young Voters Don’t Like It.

President Biden is struggling to connect with younger voters. The sepia-toned stories he peppers into speeches may not be helping. When Biden traveled to Israel last month, he spoke about his 1973 meeting with then Prime Minister Golda Meir. Following the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade last year, he stressed his work in 1987 to keep conservative Judge Robert Bork off the nation’s high court. Pressed about climate change during a news conference in Vietnam, he pointed to his longstanding commitment to the issue, including his work on it with Sen. Dick Lugar (R., Ind.) in the 1980s.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

Congrats, Your House Made You Rich. Now Sell It.

Forget the old slogan about there never being a better time to buy a home. For baby boomers, there might never be a better time to sell. The kids are gone, the stairs aren’t going to get easier to climb, and downsizing with home prices up so sharply since the pandemic could pad out those retirement savings. Many boomers have little or no debt on their current homes and, as an added bonus, it is easy to find ready buyers with so few homes on the market.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
