Qatar Duty Free inaugurates Souq Al Matar at Hamad International – Business Traveller

This week, Qatar Duty Free (QDF), the owner and operator of all retail and catering outlets at Hamad International Airport in Doha, unveiled Souq Al Matar. Located in the North Node terminal of Hamad International (HIA), Souq Al Matar is positioned as an experiential mixed retail and dining concept. The new space features seven shops and two restaurants, developed in collaboration with architect Ibrahim M. Jaidah, who also designed the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha which was one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup last year. Souq Al Matar has wicker woven ceilings, arched doorways, and wooden-framed windows. Changi airport offers free bike hire to passengers with a layover – Business Traveller

Singapore Changi airport is offering free bike hire to passengers with a layover in Singapore. Travellers are free to use the bikes for two hours to explore attractions in the vicinity, including the Jurassic Mile and nearby beaches along Singapore’s East Coast. Note that passengers must have at least 5.5 hours but less than 24 hours till their connecting flights. They will also need to clear immigration and have an entry visa for Singapore, if required. Lufthansa to introduce free inflight messaging on European flights – Business Traveller

Lufthansa has announced plans to offer free inflight messaging for customers on short and medium-haul flights. From mid-January 2024 passengers on A320 Family aircraft which have wifi connectivity will be able to send and receive an unlimited number of message – including photos – on their smartphone or tablet. The only prerequisite for using the new service is logging into FlyNet with a Miles & More card number, or with an email address registered with the Lufthansa Group Travel ID. Those customers without one of these will be able to register inflight. Malaysia Airlines expands free inflight wifi provision to all passengers – Business Traveller

Malaysia Airlines has introduced free inflight for all passengers on selected aircraft. The service will initially be available on 20 A350, A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, before being rolled out to selected narrowbody planes in phases. All passengers on these aircraft will be able to connect to inflight wifi for free, regardless of cabin class or loyalty tier. Finnair has become the latest carrier to introduce complimentary inflight messaging. From today (2 November) all Finnair Plus members can now send and receive free text-based messages via platforms including WhatsApp, iMessage, Viber, Kakao Talk and WeChat, on European flights operated by Finnair’s narrow-body Airbus fleet. In addition Finnair Gold and Platinum members will see their current 30-minute free browsing package upgraded to a 30-minute streaming package from January 2024. SWISS partners with AirPortr for free luggage collections – Business Traveller

SWISS has announced a temporary promotion enabling customers to have their luggage transferred from their home or hotel to the airport free of charge. The carrier has an established partnership with luggage delivery service AirPortr, with customers able to book a collection and transferral of their bags to either Geneva or Zurich airport. And a LinkedIn post by AirPortr’s CEO Randel Darby confirmed that the service is being offered free of charge until the end of August. Wizz Air adds free tier to Discount Club loyalty programme – Business Traveller

Wizz Air has added a new entry level tier to its existing WIZZ Discount Club loyalty programme. The Discount Club was launched over a decade ago, and currently offers members a €10 discount on fares above €19.99, and €5 off 20kg and 32kg checked baggage options, in return for a €39.99 yearly fee. A group membership for up to six people is also available for €69.99 per year. The carrier said that the new WIZZ Discount Club Light had been added “to increase engagement from customers”, and will offer members “exclusive in-flight discounts”, including coupons and promotions for the WIZZ Café and Boutique.
