Flydubai inks US$11 billion deal for 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners – Business Traveller

Dubai-based carrier flydubai has committed to the purchase of 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners – its first widebody aircraft order – in a deal valued at US$11 billion. Deliveries of the new widebody aircraft are set to commence from 2026. The airline added that it has an order backlog of more than 130 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to be delivered by 2035. The carrier said that it was currently evaluating engine options for its first Dreamliner order. It currently operates a single fleet-type of 80 Boeing 737 aircraft which includes 30 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, 47 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and three Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft. Flydubai adds Cairo and Poznan to network – Business Traveller

Dubai-based carrier flydubai inaugurated operations to Cairo’s Sphinx International airport (SPX) and Poznan airport (POZ) on 29 October. The airline now operates to two destinations in Egypt – Alexandria and Cairo – and to three in in Poland including Krakow, Poznan and Warsaw. Flights between Terminal 2 at Dubai International (DXB) to Sphinx International will operate daily. Flydubai will launch services to Langkawi and Penang – Business Traveller

Dubai-based carrier flydubai will launch a daily service to Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia beginning next year. Flights from Dubai’s Terminal 3 to Penang International airport (PEN) and Langkawi International airport (LGK) will start from February 10, 2024. Its services to Langkawi will operate via a short stop in Penang. The carrier will therefore become the first to connect those destinations with flights from the UAE and also the first to operate flights to Langkawi from the Middle East. Ghaith Al Ghaith, chief executive officer at Dubai-based carrier flydubai, has called for an ‘open skies’ agreement between India and the UAE. He pointed out to the benefits that such an agreement could have for the aviation sector of both countries. “India is a huge market for us. We should have an open skies arrangement between us and India. Especially now with the India and UAE partnership leading to the creation of a trade corridor, aviation should also be liberated too. Flydubai first UAE carrier to operate direct flights to Mombasa – Business Traveller

Flydubai has announced the launch of flights to Mombasa from January 17, 2024. The Dubai-based carrier will become the first national carrier to operate direct flights from Dubai as well as the UAE to the coastal city in Kenya.
