Trump Lawyer Jenna Ellis Pleads Guilty in Georgia Election Case

Updated Oct. 24, 2023 11:13 am ETATLANTA—Jenna Ellis, a member Donald Trump’s legal team during his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, became the third adviser to the former president to plead guilty in the election-interference case brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.Ellis agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for a sentence that avoids jail time. Her decision to cooperate could be particularly harmful to Rudy Giuliani, another former lawyer for Trump who crisscrossed the country with Ellis in late 2020 promoting baseless voter fraud theories. Giuliani, Trump and the other 13 co-defendants without plea deals earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges against them, including racketeering.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Fani Willis Blasts Jim Jordan, Again, For Wading Into Donald Trump Case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis once again shot down House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Wednesday, calling his ongoing attempts to wade into the prosecution of former President Donald Trump “ignorant,” “troubling” and an abuse of power.“A charitable explanation of your correspondence is that you are ignorant of the United States and Georgia Constitutions and codes,” Willis wrote in a letter to the lawmaker. “A more troubling explanation is that you are abusing your authority as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to attempt to obstruct and interfere with a Georgia criminal prosecution.”“We have already written a letter — which I have attached again for your reference — explaining why the legal positions you advance are meritless,” she continued. “...

Fani Willis Tears Into Fake Trump Electors’ Defense

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has tackled a major argument from three of the false electors charged alongside Donald Trump in Georgia.David Shafer, Shawn Still and Cathleen Latham have argued that they were following precedent set by Democrats in Hawaii after the 1960 election when the three defendants signed certificates falsely claiming to be legitimate presidential electors favoring Trump after the 2020 election. The three Republicans are seeking to move their cases to federal court.Willis argued against the move in court papers filed Thursday, as first reported by Politico’s Kyle Cheney. She took aim at the Hawaii argument, which Republicans have long used to defend Trump’s false-electors scheme.“Repeated invocations to ‘precedent’ allegedly set in Hawaii during the 1960 ...

Fani Willis Schools Jim Jordan With Brutal Correction

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis essentially told House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to stay in his lane in a blunt response to his demand for documents related to her case against Donald Trump. “Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution,” she wrote in a nine-page letter to Jordan, a longtime Trump apologist. NBC News posted the full letter online. Jordan had asked for a range of documents related to her investigation into allegations of election interference. That probe led to a grand jury returning indictments against Trump and 18 others on charges that include racketeering. Willis told Jordan to keep out, accusing him of an “unjustified and illegal in...
