100 Princes Street hotel opens in Edinburgh – Business Traveller

Edinburgh has welcomed a new boutique hotel in its city centre, with 100 Princes Street opening its doors to guests. 100 Princes Street marks the first Scottish property from family-owned hotel collection, Red Carnation Hotels. The boutique hotel occupies the building which formerly housed the headquarters of the Royal Overseas League, located close to Scotland’s National Gallery and facing Edinburgh Castle. The hotel has been designed by the teams behind Botswana’s Xigera Safari Lodge and Ireland’s Ashford Castle – both of which are Red Carnation Hotels. Ennismore to open London and Edinburgh hotels in early 2024 – Business Traveller

Global lifestyle hospitality company Ennismore has outlined plans to unveil 18 new hotels in 2024, adding more than 5,600 rooms to its portfolio. Forthcoming openings include 25hours Hotel The Oddbird, Jakarta; The Hoxton, Vienna; 25hours Hotel Paper Island in Copenhagen; Mama Shelter Nice, SLS Barcelona; Mama Shelter Dubai Business Bay; JO&JOE Budapest; Hyde Perth; Hyde Bodrum; Rixos Golden Horn, Istanbul; and Rixos Obhur Jeddah. British Airways to launch flights from Edinburgh to Olbia and San Sebastian – Business Traveller

British Airways has announced plans to serve two new destinations from Edinburgh airport next summer. The carrier will offer twice weekly flights to San Sebastian and a weekly service to Olbia in Sardinia, under its BA Cityflyer subsidiary. JetBlue has announced a further expansion of its transatlantic network, with the addition of seasonal services to Dublin and Edinburgh in 2024. The US carrier will operate daily flights from New York JFK and Boston Logan International to Dublin between 13 March and 30 September, 2024, and a daily service from JFK to Edinburgh between 22 May and 30 September next year. Dalata to open first Edinburgh property – Business Traveller

Dalata Hotel Group has announced plans for its first property in the Scottish capital. Subject to planning permission an existing building on the city’s St Andrew’s Square is set to be extended and converted into a Clayton hotel, with an expected opening date of mid-2026. The hotel will feature 153 rooms, a bar, restaurant, fitness centre and two large meeting rooms “with stunning period features on the first floor overlooking St Andrew’s Square”. Dalata also said that the property “will be one of our first to be designed to operate with zero on-site carbon emissions”. Wizz Air to quit Edinburgh in favour of Glasgow – Business Traveller

Wizz Air has announced plans to launch flights from Glasgow to Bucharest and Budapest next month. Both routes will be served twice-weekly, with Budapest (a route Wizz Air has previously flown) operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 14 November, and Bucharest operating on Mondays and Fridays from 17 November. But Glasgow’s gain is Edinburgh’s loss, as existing Wizz Air flights from the Scottish capital to Budapest and Bucharest will cease on 11 and 13 November respectively. It is also understood that the carrier’s seasonal route from Edinburgh to Gdansk will close on 26 October, leaving the airport with no Wizz Air services for now. Edinburgh airport installs 40 electric vehicle chargers – Business Traveller

Edinburgh airport has installed new electric vehicle charging points across three of its car parks, as part of a Low Carbon Energy Project. A total of 40 EV chargers have been installed, including five in the airport’s FastPark valet parking option, enabling passengers to book to have their car plugged in while they are away and return to a fully charged vehicle. Another 15 22kWh chargers are now located in the Terminal Parking facility close to the multi-storey car park (with a maximum stay of 24 hours) – and finally 20 7kWh chargers have been installed in the Plane Parking facility, where there it no time limit for use. Jet2 has announced plans for new routes, additional capacity and extra aircraft at Edinburgh airport. Flights to Chambery have been added for the next two winter ski seasons, with weekly 23/24 services starting on 10 February, 2024, and 24/25 services starting on 21 December, 2024. New summer 2024 schedules to Rome and Malta have also been released, with twice weekly flights to the Italian capital starting on 8 March, 2024, followed by weekly services to Malta from 1 May next year. Marriott’s first W Hotels property in Scotland is finally set to open this winter, some seven years after plans for the hotel were first announced. The group’s website confirms that W Edinburgh will open in November 2023, with rooms available for booking from the middle of the month. The 244-room hotel was first announced back in 2016 (when the brand was still operated by Starwood Hotels prior to its merger with Marriott), and features a distinct spiral ribbon exterior. British Airways to refresh lounges at Edinburgh, Seattle and Heathrow – Business Traveller

British Airways is to refresh its lounges at Edinburgh, Seattle and Heathrow this year, alongside an ongoing refurb of its Heathrow T5B facility. The carrier said that it would add a “brand-new bar and an enhanced menu offering” at its Seattle lounge, as well as “new touches” at its Edinburgh facility. At Heathrow BA is also replacing furniture at its T5 Arrivals and T3 lounges, as well as adding new day beds and areas for working at its Concorde Room.
