EasyJet confirms order for 157 Airbus aircraft – Business Traveller

EasyJet has confirmed a firm order for 157 A320neo Family aircraft, following shareholder approval on Tuesday. The carrier will receive 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo aircraft between FY29 and FY34, the plans for which we initially reported in October. EasyJet says that this ensures it has “a supply of future delivery slots… to retain its current scale through replacing aircraft leaving the fleet” and enables the carrier to “execute its growth strategy”. An additional 100 purchase rights will also enable the airline the opportunity to further grow, depending on when they are delivered. EasyJet plans order for up to 257 Airbus aircraft – Business Traveller

EasyJet has unveiled plans to order up to 257 new aircraft, as it targets annual profits of more than £1 billion in the medium-term. The low-cost carrier said it had entered into conditional arrangements with Airbus to secure the delivery of 157 aircraft (56 A320 neos and 101 A321 neos) between FY29 and FY34, as well as options on a further 100 jets. The deal would total $19.9 billion at list prices, although easyJet said that the actual price “would be substantially lower because of certain price concessions granted by Airbus”. The agreement is subject to shareholder approval, which the airline hopes to complete by the end of the year. EasyJet adds four new winter routes from UK airports – Business Traveller

Easyjet has announced new winter routes to destinations in France, Switzerland and Austria from three UK airports. The low-cost carrier is launching flights from London Stansted to Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland on 16 December, which will operate twice-weekly throughout the winter season. The carrier will also launch a once-weekly service from London Southend to Grenoble in the French Alps from 14 January, along with one flight a week from Birmingham to Austria’s Salzburg from 13 January. EasyJet to launch flights from London Luton to Cairo – Business Traveller

Easyjet has announced a new year-round route from London Luton to Egypt’s capital. This will be the first time that the low-cost carrier will operate to Cairo, with existing routes to Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt. The three-times-weekly service will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, beginning on 31 October, 2023. This comes after competitor WizzAir announced plans to launch a three-times-weekly service from Luton to Giza in Cairo on 30 October. EasyJet and Jet2 add twilight bag drop at Glasgow airport – Business Traveller

Glasgow airport has introduced a new Twilight Bag Drop service, available to easyJet and Jet2 customers. The airport says that passengers flying from the airport before 0830 can now check in their luggage between 1630 and 2100 the day before, allowing them to head straight for security on the morning of their flight. Note that a separate press release from easyJet says that the Glasgow twilight service opens at 1600. To avail of the service customers must complete check-in and have their boarding pass and passports with them. The lead booker must also be present when the luggage is being checked in. EasyJet reports record third quarter profits – Business Traveller

EasyJet has published its latest trading update, showing record profits, increased revenue per seat and strong demand for its easyJet Holidays division. The low-cost carrier made £203 million before tax in the third quarter ending 30 June, a £317 million improvement on the same period of last year. Passenger growth was up 7 per cent year-on-year, and the airline also recorded a 23 per cent increase in revenue per seat. In particular the group’s easyJet Holidays division “continues to outperform”, recording a £49 million profit before tax for the third quarter. DHL easyJet workers suspend Gatwick strike action – Business Traveller

The Unite union has confirmed the suspension of strike action by nearly 600 DHL workers at Gatwick airport. Last week the union announced eight days of strike action by ASC, Menzies Aviation, GGS and DHL Services Ltd employees at the airport, in a dispute over pay. Members had been set to strike for four days from Friday 28 July to Tuesday 1 August, and then again from Friday 4 August to Tuesday 8 August. Gatwick set for eight days of strike action But the union said DHL staff – who are contracted to easyJet at Gatwick – will no longer walk out between 28 July and 1 August, following an improved pay offer. EasyJet adds eight new winter routes from UK airports – Business Traveller

EasyJet has added a total of eight new routes from Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Luton and Southend airports for this winter. City services include Liverpool-Lyon (commencing 13 December) and Southend-Geneva (from 16 December). The carrier will also offer flights to Hurghada in Egypt from Liverpool (twice-weekly from 29 October), Belfast (weekly from 31 October), Edinburgh ((twice-weekly from 6 November) and Glasgow (twice weekly from 8 November). And there will be twice-weekly services to Rovaniemi – the gateway to Finnish Lapland – starting from Edinburgh on 3 December, and from Luton on 9 December.
