More on the Stifled Hunter Biden Probe

House Republicans continue to unpack the Justice Department’s botched Hunter Biden probe, and evidence is mounting of interference from the top. The latest testimony comes from an Oct. 23 Judiciary Committee interview with former U.S. Attorney Scott Brady. In January 2020, then Attorney General Bill Barr tapped Mr. Brady to vet information related to Ukrainian corruption, and to pass along credible material to offices with ongoing investigations. That included Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who for five years has been probing Hunter’s foreign business operations, including his work for the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. Mr. Brady says in the transcript we’ve reviewed that FBI headquarters and Mr. Weiss’s office made this very difficult.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All...

When the Justice Department Spied on Congress

The Justice Department’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation is the fiasco that keeps on giving, and look no further than this week’s revelations of abuse of power. The latest news is that Justice snooped on the Congressional investigators who dared to conduct oversight of its snooping on the 2016 Trump campaign.Numerous current and former congressional staffers have learned that Justice subpoenaed their personal phone and email records in 2017, likely under the pretext of a leak investigation. The targets included Republican and Democratic staffers in the Senate and House. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

IBM, Microsoft and Big Tech Antitrust Folly

The continuing trial of Google, along with lawsuits against Amazon and Meta, have brought antitrust back into the public eye. These suits recall the 1969 case against IBM and the 1998 case against Microsoft, the great antitrust battles of the latter half of the 20th century.Supporters of aggressive antitrust enforcement think that only antitrust suits prevented IBM from commandeering the personal-computer market and Microsoft from taking over the internet. But that’s an urban legend.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 87990cbe856818d5eddac44c7b1cdeb8

More Evidence Emerges That Judge Chutkan Has an Ax to Grind Against Trump – RedState

Judge Tanya Chutkan is already making life difficult for Donald Trump and his lawyers. As RedState reported, Tuesday brought yet another example with a controversial ruling. Specifically, Judge Chutkan scheduled a hearing for August 11th, a day that both of Trump’s lawyers weren’t available. Why? Because one of them was scheduled to be in Florida at a hearing involving the DOJ’s other indictment against the former president. Recognizing the conflict, both Trump’s legal team and the prosecution agreed that August 10th would work. Instead of granting that reasonable request, worked out by both sides, Chutkan denied any change of date, effectively denying Trump of his full counsel being present. Of course, anyone who has looked over Judge Chutkan’s background wouldn’t have been surprised ...

Details of Latest Trump Indictment Released, Including ‘Conspiracy to Defraud the United States’ – RedState

As RedState reported, Donald Trump has been indicted at the federal level again. Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by AG Merrick Garland to probe the former president on various fronts, has charged Trump with four counts, including conspiracy to “defraud the United States.” Those charges come less than two months after the DOJ brought charges related to classified documents that were retained at Mar-a-Lago and allegedly shared with others in violation of the Espionage Act. The full text of the latest indictment can be found at the end of this piece.   The charges involve several different offshoots of Trump’s alleged activities following the 2020 election, with counts one and four appearing to be related to the fake electors scheme that he and his team pushed, while counts two a...

Email Shows Fauci Senate Testimony ‘Absolutely a Lie,’ Files Criminal Referral – RedState

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and former Chief Medical Advisor to the President Dr. Anthony Fauci have clashed repeatedly in the Senate in the past over whether the U.S. funded virus “gain-of-function” research, a charge Fauci adamantly denied. It was clear the two men didn’t like each other, but now Paul is ratcheting it up to another level—he’s officially filing a criminal referral with the Department of Justice alleging that the good doctor flat-out lied to him in sworn testimony. This directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie. That’s why I sent an official criminal referral to the DOJ. https://t.co/Y191SmMiIr — Rand Paul (@RandPaul) July 29, 2023 The senator said the email in th...

Department of Justice Launches Investigation Into Memphis Police Department

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it’s investigating whether the Memphis Police Department participates in discriminatory practices against Black people, following the high-profile police killing of Tyre Nichols earlier this year.Nichols’ killing in January sparked nationwide outrage. Body camera footage showed five officers beating the 29-year-old Black man after a traffic stop in a residential Tennessee neighborhood. The Justice Department initiated a review of the Memphis Police Department after Nichols’ death. The new formal “patterns and practices” review will be a broader look at how the department handles policing. This story will be updated. !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s){if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod? n.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.pus...

It Sure Looks Like Hunter Biden and the DOJ Were Trying to Pull a Fast One on the Judge During Plea Hearing – RedState

As RedState reported, the judge handling Hunter Biden’s plea agreement threw a wrench in the process on Wednesday morning after it became apparent that there were issues with the sweetheart deal. That revelation came after a night of controversy when someone representing Hunter Biden’s legal team called the court to get an amicus brief removed from the docket. The clerk’s notes indicated some subterfuge was afoot, but after the judge demanded an explanation, Hunter Biden’s lawyers submitted a letter asserting it was a misunderstanding. As the actual hearing began, the judge was immediately skeptical of what the DOJ and Hunter Biden’s team had worked out. Hunter Biden’s lawyers have proclaimed for weeks that their acceptance of the plea deal brings an end to the five-year investigation ...
