Warranty Period: Warranty & guarantee period of white goods should start from date of installation, govt advisory to sellers

NEW DELHI: The warranty or guarantee period of newly purchased white goods such as TV, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines should start from the date of installation rather than the date of purchase, the consumer affairs ministry has said in an advisory addressed to their manufacturers and sellers. The ministry has urged them to revise the warranty or guarantee policy to include this provision.The ministry’s advisory comes during the festive season, particularly ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, when there is spurt in the sale of consumer durables, including the white goods.Sources said the advisory was issued considering there have been several instances of delay or longer time taken in delivery and installation of such products.
