San Francisco Is Building to Bring Residents Back

Real-estate developers are launching a series of residential projects in San Francisco, responding to new efforts by the state and city to create more housing in one of the country’s most expensive places to live. In what would be the city’s most ambitious residential development in several years, local property developer Bayhill Ventures last month announced plans for a 71-story rental tower in San Francisco’s ailing financial district. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. European Developers Are Wooing Wine Lovers With Their Own Hassle-Free Vineyards

With careers in Northern California’s tech sector and a primary home on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, Clifton Lewis Lyles and his wife, Serene Lewis Lyles, have long spent their down time among the vineyards and wineries of Sonoma and Napa counties. Now in their early 50s, the two are getting ready for something new—their own bit of vineyard and their own private wine label, some 5,500 miles away in the Alentejo region of Portugal.   The opportunity comes with their new vacation home: a two-bedroom, 2,500-square-foot villa, currently under construction, in L’and Vineyards, a luxury development about an hour’s drive from Lisbon. The 163-acre estate, with 15 acres of vineyards, lets its homeowners—spread across a total of about 80 units in the coming years—become de facto wine...

Former Apple Exec Lists Aspen Home for $45 Million

As Apple’s vice president of real estate, design, and construction for 13 years, Bob Bridger helped design the tech giant’s glassy, expansive stores. When he built a home in Aspen, Colo., after leaving Apple in 2015, he brought some of that sensibility to the contemporary estate, which has floor-to-ceiling windows and a “clubhouse” building with a glass garage door. Through Bridger’s relationships with vendors from his time at Apple, he connected with the owners of a quarry in Marble, Colo., and was able to handpick the stone in the house. After several years of construction, the property was completed in 2022, and Bridger is now putting it on the market for $45 million. Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. It’s Too Soon to Bet on China’s Housing Turnaround

They fell 3.7% year-over-year in the first 10 months of 2023, compared with a 3.2% decline in the first nine.
