Finnair to adopt Avios loyalty currency on 9 March, 2024 – Business Traveller

Finnair has confirmed it will adopt the Avios loyalty currency for its Finnair Plus frequent flyer programme from March next year. The carrier announced plans to adopt the Avios currency this summer, and has now revealed in social media posts that the switch date will be on 9 March, 2024. The change will also see Finnair adopt a spend-based model for the earning of Avios, similar to that already in place for the Iberia Plus and British Airways Executive Club programmes. Executive Club members can currently collect double Avios on up to ten flight and holiday bookings. The new offer is valid for bookings made by 21 November and travel completed by 14 January, 2024. The new Avios earning system for BA flights recently took effect, which sees members collect between 6 and 9 Avios per qualifying £1 spent, depending on elite status. British Airways Executive Club Members booking flights from October 18, 2023 will collect Avios based on the cost of their ticket. Members will receive up to nine Avios per £1 spent on flights, as well as collecting on additional purchases such as pre-paid seat selection and upgrades. Last year, Iberia and British Airways announced they would be moving towards a new spend-based system of earning miles, rather than distance flown, with Iberia adopting the changes in November. British Airways has now announced changes will be taking place to the way Executive Club members earn from 18 October this year. Under the new collection model, members will be able to collect up to nine Avios per £1 spent, depending on their tier status, and will also be able to collect Avios on ancillary purchases such as upgrades and pre-paid seat selection.
