Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that India can potentially save Rs 1.28 lakh crore annually in diesel costs by 2031 if it successfully transports an additional 1500 million tonnes of cargo through trains. Railways utilised 59% of its capex in first 6 months of 2023-24: Vaishnaw

The Indian Railways utilised 59 per cent of its total capital expenditure in the first six months of the financial year 2023-24, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. This was made possible as the railways carried out 38 structural and procedural reforms in these six months, which helped improve its overall performance, he told reporters. "Our total budget for 2023-24 is Rs 2.4 lakh crore, out of which we have already spent Rs 1.4 lakh crore in the first half of the current financial year.
