Air France to serve 23 North American cities this summer – Business Traveller

Air France has outlined plans to serve a total of 23 cities across the US, Canada and Mexico this summer. The carrier will resume daily flights between Paris CDG and Minneapolis on May 13 – a route served by joint venture partner Delta in summer 2023. It will also extend its Paris-Raleigh-Durham service (which it took over from Delta in October last year) into summer 2024, with up to seven flights per week operated by A350-900 aircraft. American Airlines to offer high-speed wifi on 500 regional aircraft – Business Traveller

American Airlines is set to install high-speed wifi on nearly 500 regional aircraft, with the rollout starting early next year. American Airlines already offers wifi on 900 mainline aircraft, but will extend the same high-speed connectivity to its regional aircraft over the next two years. The carrier is purchasing new technology from provider Intelsat, whose Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna will allow “regional aircraft to match fast wifi speeds that are currently available on American’s mainline aircraft”. Aer Lingus and American Airlines have expanded their codeshare agreement to include transatlantic routes from Dublin to Chicago and Philadelphia. American Airlines unveils loyalty scheme aimed at businesses – Business Traveller

American Airlines has launched a business loyalty programme, rewarding companies and their employees with AAdvantage miles and loyalty points when booking business travel. AAdvantage Business is available to companies of at least five employees based in the US or Canada, and there is no minimum spending requirement for the business to start earning miles. American Airlines said that the programme will allow companies to earn 1 mile for every US$1 spent when booking through American Airlines, which can be redeemed on flights, lounge access, hotels, car rental and more experiences. The hotel is located on the corner of Leidsekade Canal and Leidseplein Square, and is now known as the Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American. The four-star property features 173 rooms, a lobby bar, fitness centre, and Cafe and Bar Americain. American Airlines unveils catering facility at Dallas Fort Worth International – Business Traveller

American Airlines has unveiled a $100 million catering facility to serve its hub at Dallas Fort Worth International airport (DFW). At just under 20,000 sqm, the building is the largest airline catering kitchen in the country according to the carrier and is more than three times the size of a football field. The airline says that, since it opened at the start of the summer, the kitchen has helped to “minimise catering delays, improving the hub’s operation which in turn improves the airline’s operation”. During peak travel season, the catering facility prepares nearly 15,000 fresh meals a day here. The Transportation Department fined American Airlines $4.1 million on Monday, saying the carrier violated federal rules by keeping passengers stranded on airport tarmacs for hours on dozens of occasions in recent years.The agency said the fine was the largest penalty it had ever doled out for tarmac delays. The violations stem from 43 domestic flights between 2018 and 2021 in which passengers were stuck on the tarmac for more than three hours without being given a chance to deplane, according to the department.A majority of the delays occurred at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the largest hub for American Airlines. American Airlines has announced plans for new and resumed routes to European destinations next summer. The carrier will launch daily seasonal flights from Philadelphia to Nice on 5 May, 2024, followed by Copenhagen on 1 June, and Naples on 5 June. There are currently no nonstop routes from Philadelphia to any of these European cities. In addition AA will launch a new daily seasonal route from Dallas Fort Worth to Barcelona on 1 June – again there are currently no nonstop flights on the route. American Airlines has teamed up with Google Research and Breakthrough Energy for a study exploring contrail avoidance. Contrails (short for condensation trails) form when aeroplanes fly through layers of humidity, typically at least five miles above the ground. While most contrails can disappear quickly, some can persist as cirrus clouds for hours depending on the conditions and can trap heat within the Earth’s atmosphere at night.
