Now Arriving at an Airport Lounge Near You: Peloton Bikes, Nap Pods and Caviar Service

A handful of new lounges opened by credit card issuers, including Capital One and American Express, have recently landed in airports across the United States, promising posh spots of refuge for select travelers awaiting their flights. At La Guardia Airport, caviar service will be available for pre-order. At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, travelers can get complimentary massages, and at Denver International Airport, there are nap pods. In addition to amenities, the new lounges provide an ambience reminiscent of a luxury hotel lobby, both in interior design and scale, and fit several hundred people at a time.“Lounges have certainly gotten busier, so we’ve expanded our footprint,” said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, which in February opened its large...

London City Airport reports 50 per cent reduction in security queue times – Business Traveller

London City Airport says queue times at security have been cut by half since the installation of new CT scanners one year ago. London City became the first major airport in the UK to fully deploy next generation CT security scanners in April 2023, allowing passengers to pass through security without removing laptops and liquids from their hand luggage. Passengers flying from London City Airport are also no longer restricted by the 100ml liquid rule, and can take through bottles of up to two litres. In December 2022 the DfT announced what it called an end to the “tiny toiletries” rule by 2024, with all major airports required to replace existing 2D screening technology with more advanced CT security scanners by June of this year. Nonetheless, not all airports are introducing new security ...

Birmingham airport surpasses pre-Covid passenger levels – Business Traveller

A total of 1,106,000 passengers travelled through the airport in October, compared to 1,101,000 during the same period in 2019. BHX says it now expects its 2023/24 traffic to “draw level or even exceed” that of 2019/20, when it served more than 12 million customers. The airport is currently in the midst of a £50 million project to construct a new security hall, with works expected to be completed by June 2024. This in turn is part of a £300 million capital investment programme which will increase the airport’s capacity to 18 million passengers per year by 2033.
