ITA Airways takes delivery of four Airbus aircraft in one week – Business Traveller

ITA Airways has provided an update on its aircraft renewal programme, with more than 50 per cent of its fleet now comprising new generation planes. The carrier recently took delivery of four Airbus aircraft in one week – an A330-900 owned by ITA Airways, as well as leased A321neo, A320neo and A220-100 aircraft. The new additions means that 44 out of the airline’s fleet of 87 aircraft are now considered “new generation”. Shortly after ITA Airways launched operations in October 2021, the flag carrier announced an order for 28 Airbus narrow and wide-bodied aircraft, including seven A220s, 11 A320 neos and ten A330 neo aircraft. Recent A220 deliveries have enabled ITA to ramp up its services to and from London City airport, with the introduction of a fourth daily Milan Linate frequency, and ...

SWISS brings last of Covid-parked aircraft out of storage – Business Traveller

Another post-pandemic milestone has been reached, with SWISS returning the last of its stored aircraft into service. The Lufthansa Group carrier placed a total of 25 aircraft into long term storage following the onset of Covid-19, and its A320 (registration HB-IJO) has spent some three years in Amman. The stored aircraft represented a significant proportion of SWISS’ fleet – the airline currently operates just under 90 aircraft. The majority of these are Airbus planes, although the carrier does have a fleet of 12 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. All of SWISS’ stored aircraft were subjected to regular inspections of their installed equipment, as well as regular flushing of the hydraulic systems and engine function checks. The airline highlighted that “Jordan’s hot and arid climate is especially...

EasyJet confirms order for 157 Airbus aircraft – Business Traveller

EasyJet has confirmed a firm order for 157 A320neo Family aircraft, following shareholder approval on Tuesday. The carrier will receive 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo aircraft between FY29 and FY34, the plans for which we initially reported in October. EasyJet says that this ensures it has “a supply of future delivery slots… to retain its current scale through replacing aircraft leaving the fleet” and enables the carrier to “execute its growth strategy”. An additional 100 purchase rights will also enable the airline the opportunity to further grow, depending on when they are delivered. An existing 35 A320neo aircraft already on order will also be converted into larger A321neo aircraft. EasyJet says this decision will enable “continued growth opportunities in slot constrained airports”. Johan...

American Airlines to offer high-speed wifi on 500 regional aircraft – Business Traveller

American Airlines is set to install high-speed wifi on nearly 500 regional aircraft, with the rollout starting early next year. American Airlines already offers wifi on 900 mainline aircraft, but will extend the same high-speed connectivity to its regional aircraft over the next two years. The carrier is purchasing new technology from provider Intelsat, whose Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna will allow “regional aircraft to match fast wifi speeds that are currently available on American’s mainline aircraft”. Customers will be able to stream content, browse the internet, check their emails and log onto a VPN while inflight. Ultimately, American plans to bring the total number of satellite-connected aircraft to more than 1,400. Earlier this year American became the first airline ...
