At the start of our tour of the Southernmost Beach Resort, we admired the front desk in the lobby, which features a decorative wall of silver and gray fish sculptures as an elevated take on the classic Florida Keys style of marine life decor.

Since the property is so sprawling, a bellman can take guests in a golf cart to their room after check-in if they’re staying in a farther building on the oceanview side.

These oceanfront buildings facing the resort’s private beach were built on land that used to be the Atlantic Shores Motel. During holidays, the hotel hosts family-friendly events on this lawn, like an Easter egg hunt and a candy cane hunt.

The hotel’s beach-inspired guest rooms blend warm sand tones and soft shades of blue to reflect the resort’s coastal surroundings. We got to see this spacious ocean view king guest room, which includes a set of armchairs, as well as seating on the balcony.

The hotel’s new custom bedding is branded with the letter “S” and a compass icon to represent the Southernmost Beach Resort and its nautical theme.

Some rooms at the resort have balconies that offer views of the Atlantic Ocean and the hotel’s private sandy beach.

Southernmost Beach Resort has four restored Victorian-era guesthouses offering a traditional bed-and-breakfast experience. This is La Mer House, one of two luxury guesthouses with an ocean view. Guests staying in these historic inns can enjoy complimentary breakfast on the porch.

The Dewey House’s oceanside terrace, called the Dewey Deck, is where guests of the La Mer, Dewey and Avalon guesthouses gather for their gourmet, chef-prepared continental breakfast. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments are also served here in the afternoon.

There are three pool areas on-site: the adults-only Tranquility Pool; Shores Pool, located next to the hotel’s public beach area; and Pineapple Pool (shown here), which is in a courtyard surrounded by the main lobby, the Gingerbread Wing and the Tower Building.

The manicured West Lawn next to the hotel’s beachfront is a quiet space to unwind in a hammock or in one of the Adirondack chairs.

During our tour, we explored this small public beach called South Beach, which stakes the claim of being America’s southernmost beach. Hotel guests can enjoy complimentary loungers, umbrellas and beach towels as part of the resort fee.

Located along South Beach, only 90 miles from Cuba, the hotel’s only restaurant, Southernmost Beach Café, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The beachside bistro serves island cuisine blending American classics with Caribbean influence.
