The marble reception desk was modeled on the ancient Ara Pacis monument, while the marble floors were inspired by the floors in the Pantheon.

As we arrive, a doorman waits to welcome guests into the hotel, and a bellman is available to help with bags. The concierge desk is staffed by experts who know the city inside and out.

The lobby gives off a wow factor with gold coffered ceilings, polished marble floors, elegant furnishings and fresh flowers.

From the mezzanine, we could look down at La Libreria, an elegant lounge that serves an all-day menu of light fare. A cabinet on the left side of the shelves opens to reveal a secret bar.

La Libreria features hand-painted murals by artist Gio Bressana, as well as the original marble fireplace from the 1800s.

Rooms and suites are done up in neutral tones and elegant furnishings. They feature original artwork, such as watercolors by Bruno Moinard, who renovated the hotel.

The bedrooms we visited feature elegant details, like bespoke headboards by Dedar, Rubelli curtains and Murano glass lamps.

Luxe marble bathrooms feature gold faucets and come equipped with Ortigia toiletries. Some bathrooms, like this one, have a bathtub, while others have a shower.

Many of the rooms and suites we saw have fantastic views looking out at the nearby buildings and gardens.

The four signature suites come with record players and vinyl records created specially for the hotel, which feature classic songs from the 1950s and ‘60s.

We stopped to check out the hall of fame in the staircase that connects the fifth and sixth floors. The wall displays photographs of celebrities who have stayed in the hotel, including Leonardo Di Caprio, Nicole Kidman, Tina Turner and Nelson Mandela.

The bar area at Il Giardino Ristorante & Bar has an elegant, modern design inspired by the surrounding gardens. It’s a great place for an aperitivo with a view.

The fine dining restaurant, La Terrazza, is only open in the evenings for dinner. The elegant design and artfully prepared dishes wow guests with their creativity and technical prowess.
