Liberty Wildlife will host an event in Phoenix to promote the care and protection of endangered California condors.
The gathering, sponsored by SRP and the Zeriah Foundation, is a celebration of condors and all native wildlife. Dubbed “Condors & Cocktails” this 21+ aged event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at Liberty Wildlife’s Rob & Melani Walton Campus, at 2600 E. Elwood St., in Phoenix.
The event will focus on efforts to save the California condors from extinction, including recent threats this spring from a virulent strain of avian flu.
Condors & Cocktails will feature live music, wildlife presentations, food trucks, and 21+ bar featuring a signature drink, the Papyrus Condor, made with mescal, Aperol, Drambuie and lime juice.
Liberty Wildlife’s mission is “to nurture the nature of Arizona through wildlife rehabilitation, natural history education, and conservation services to the community,” according to a press release. The organization’s education programs include in-person experiences with native wildlife, including two non-releasable California condors, Marble and Millie.
This past spring Liberty Wildlife staff and volunteer veterinarians began caring for several condors in the flock located near the Grand Canyon after a devastating wave of avian flu struck the population. In addition, Liberty Wildlife incubated an egg, laid by a condor who had died from avian flu.
That chick is now thriving in the care of a “foster parent” condor in Boise, with hopes that when she will eventually be returned to the wild in Arizona near her flock.

Admission includes Liberty Wildlife animal ambassador trail access; wildlife “pop up” demonstrations along the trail; presentation of the documentary “The Weight of a Feather” in a large classroom; a food station featuring three food trucks; and a no-host bar along with a raffle.
