Transport for London (TfL) has outlined disruption to rail and Underground services to Heathrow on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November, in what it says is “a complex weekend of closures”.
Planned Heathrow engineering works mean the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express will not run to the airport all weekend.
Piccadilly line trains will operate between central London and Terminals, 2,3 and 4, but there will be no trains running to or from Terminal 5, with an inter-terminal transfer bus service operating between Terminal 2&3 and T5. Passengers looking to travel between T4 and T5 are advised to use either the free H30 bus or TfL 482 / 490 services.
In addition there will be no Piccadilly Line service between Acton Town and Uxbridge, although Metropolitan Line trains will run to Uxbridge as usual.
And the Elizabeth Line will be closed between Paddington and Abbey Wood due to routine maintenance including works to deliver mobile coverage.
Elizabeth line stations and tunnelled sections to have mobile coverage by next year
Finally Paddington rail station will be closed on Sunday 26 November, to allow for Network Rail signalling upgrades and work on HS2 at Old Oak Common. This means that customers travelling into London from the west of England will need to change at Ealing Broadway for services into central London via the Central or District Lines.
TfL warns that as a result of the above the Central, Jubilee and Piccadilly lines are expected to be extremely busy, adding that staff may need to restrict entry to some central and West End stations to avoid overcrowding.
Commenting on the news Howard Smith, Elizabeth line director, said:
“We appreciate it is a complex weekend of closures with Network Rail, TfL and Heathrow Airport all carrying out works which may cause some disruption to customers. These works were planned several months in advance and should help ensure that the Elizabeth line infrastructure operates reliably.
“Network Rail and HS2 are also preparing for their new railway and station at Old Oak Common which will also mean some future closures.
“I apologise for any impact on journeys over the weekend and would advise customers to check before they travel using TfL’s travel tools, and plan in advance as trains and rail replacement buses may be busy.”
