Live Count: Tracking the House Speaker Votes

Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio has failed for a third time to win enough votes to be elected House speaker, facing entrenched opposition from his own party. In the latest round of voting on the House floor, 25 Republicans opposed Mr. Jordan.

To win, Mr. Jordan could afford to lose no more than four members of his own party if all members voted. In the second round of voting, 22 Republicans opposed Mr. Jordan; in the first round, the number was 20.

House Republicans nominated Mr. Jordan in a closed-door vote last week, shortly after Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana withdrew his bid for the speakership.

The vote for a new speaker comes on the heels of the ouster of Kevin McCarthy, which took place days after he struck a deal with Democrats to avert a government shutdown. Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida introduced the motion to remove Mr. McCarthy, and along with seven other far-right Republicans and all the House Democrats, he succeeded.

Mr. McCarthy won the speakership in January after a marathon 15 rounds of voting. Below, we will keep track of how every representative votes.
