EGYPTAIR will return to Manchester airport later this month, with a five-times-weekly service launching on July 15.
The flag carrier and Star Alliance member has operated flights to Manchester in the past, but not since 2015, and indeed there has not been a direct, nonstop service between the two cities by any scheduled carrier since then.
Flights will depart Manchester at 1430 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, arriving into Cairo International airport at 2135, with the return leg leaving the Egyptian capital at 1000 on the same days, landing into Manchester at 1330.
The route will be served by a B737-800 aircraft, configured with 138 economy and 16 business class seats.
EGYPTAIR also serves Cairo from London Heathrow, as does British Airways.
Commenting on the news Chris Woodroofe, managing director of Manchester Airport, said:
“Having a direct route to Cairo is fantastic news for travellers in our region, giving them a straightforward means of visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
“This link also offers businesses in our region access to a fast-growing market and adds another in-demand route to our growing network, cementing our place as the UK’s global gateway in the North.
“I am sure this service will be really popular with passengers and we look forward to working with EGYPTAIR to deliver a high-quality service.”
Manchester airport celebrates its 85th birthday this year, and recently announced a series of commemorations including an 85-prize giveaway, and the return of a Venetian chandelier last seen at Terminal 1 in 2003.
