Edinburgh airport installs 40 electric vehicle chargers – Business Traveller

Edinburgh airport has installed new electric vehicle charging points across three of its car parks, as part of a Low Carbon Energy Project.

A total of 40 EV chargers have been installed, including five in the airport’s FastPark valet parking option, enabling passengers to book to have their car plugged in while they are away and return to a fully charged vehicle.

Another 15 22kWh chargers are now located in the Terminal Parking facility close to the multi-storey car park (with a maximum stay of 24 hours) – and finally 20 7kWh chargers have been installed in the Plane Parking facility, where there it no time limit for use.

According to the airport’s official X (formerly Twitter) feed, EV charging costs £0.55 per kwh plus a £1 connection fee.

The chargers are part of a wider project to reduce emissions at the airport, with an eleven-acre solar farm currently being constructed, and a move to airside vehicles being powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil rather than diesel.

Commenting on the news Gordon Robertson, chief communications and sustainability Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said:

“It’s important to us that we provide the infrastructure to support sustainable transport options to and from the airport, and the introduction of EV chargers in three of our car parks will help us do that.

“We know there is an ever growing demand for charging points as more and more people make the switch to electric, and we’re looking forward to seeing these in use across the airport campus now they are live.

“We have ambitious plans to reduce emissions as set out in the Zero Carbon pillar of Greater Good, our sustainability strategy, and this is one way we can help drive these down and ensure a sustainable future for the airport.”

Edinburgh airport recently reopened its pick-up and dropoff zone following a £1.6 million upgrade.

Works have seen a new one-way system created across four lanes, which the airport says provides “a streamlined process with more space”. The facility also now features digital signage and new walkways, crossings and lighting.
