SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — There was a costume contest and bowling in Sioux City Friday – all for a good cause.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a major fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, a youth mentoring organization.
“We match kids aged six to thirteen with caring responsible adults,” executive director Kristie Arlt said. “It’s one-to-one mentoring or you can mentor with your spouse or partner. We have big families that mentor children together so even if you have children already, you can come together and be matched with a wonderful young person in our community.”
The event’s goal is to raise $50,000 to put into youth mentoring programs.
“It’s a fun opportunity, we have a lot of fun with the kids in their program, and we have mentors who have been with us for years and years mentoring children,” Arlt said. “Even after the child kind of graduates from our program at eighteen, it’s very likely in our program that their relationship continues into adulthood. So it’s a really special organization, we are doing great things.”
