The 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is set for Tuesday night at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park (here’s how to watch). On Monday, the scene was set by American League manager Dusty Baker of the Astros and National League skipper Rob Thomson of the Phillies, as they announced their starting pitchers and starting lineups.

As covered elsewhere, Gerrit Cole of the Yankees will start for the AL, and he’ll oppose NL starter Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks. Now let’s have a look at the starting lineups. The players in these lineups were chosen by fan vote (though there have been some injury replacements), but the actual batting order is up to each league’s manager.

Here’s a look at the two starting nines:

American League

  1. Marcus Semien, Rangers, 2B
  2. Shohei Ohtani, Angels, DH
  3. Randy Arozarena, Rays, LF
  4. Corey Seager, Rangers, SS
  5. Yandy Díaz, Rays, 1B
  6. Adolis García, Rangers, RF
  7. Austin Hays, Orioles, CF
  8. Josh Jung, Rangers, 3B
  9. Jonah Heim, Rangers, C

National League

  1. Ronald Acuña Jr., RF, Braves
  2. Freddie Freeman, 1B, Dodgers
  3. Mookie Betts, CF, Dodgers
  4. J.D. Martinez, DH, Dodgers
  5. Nolan Arenado, 3B, Cardinals
  6. Luis Arraez, 2B, Marlins
  7. Sean Murphy, C, Braves
  8. Corbin Carroll, LF, Diamondbacks
  9. Orlando Arcia, SS, Braves

“We didn’t know what to do, to tell you the truth. So Kevin Long, our hitting coach, and I got together and we threw it together,” Thomson told reporters Monday about the NL lineup. “Any one of these guys, almost everyone’s got close to a .900 OPS; they could hit anywhere in the lineup. So we just threw it together and see what we got.”
