We began our tour on the beach. If you reserve an umbrella and chairs, attendants will set them up at Polo Beach, right in front of the resort. You can bring snacks from the Makana Market and Cafe and stop at the activity booth near the beach to rent gear.

Cabanas, which are available to reserve for a fee, surround the Lower Lagoon Family Pool. You can pull the shades closed for privacy or to block the sun’s rays.

During our tour, we got to see some of the rooms. The colors in the Kilohana corner suite (pictured above) mirror the environment, with some decor elements sourced from local artisans. The design feels modern but rooted in natural elements.

The large lanai wraps in a semicircle and can be accessed from the living room and bedroom. Most rooms at the Kea Lani have ocean views.

Next, we visited the Willow Creek Spa, which uses hyper-local products that are grounded in wellness and related to Hawaiian culture. The lounge includes a steam room, rain showers and a heated stone bench.

The Kea Lani Restaurant offers a spectacular breakfast buffet at a reasonable price for what it includes – a global array of dishes, pastries, fruit and a made-to-order omelet station. You can sit inside or out on the lanai.

The Upper Pool is situated next to AMA Bar & Grill. You can order poolside or jump in to reach the swim-up bar. This pool also has a 140-foot slide that empties into the Lower Lagoon Pool.

The lobby of the Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui features arched design details and vaulted ceilings. The check-in desk is to the left, and the stairs ahead lead down to Nick’s Fishmarket and the resort’s pools.
